Plan to Enroll More Children in Health Insurance Program
FRANKFORT, Ky. - Gov. Steve Beshear recently outlined an ambitious plan to get as many children as possible enrolled in the Kentucky Children's Health Insurance Program (KCHIP) by 2010.
The Beshear Plan, unveiled in several communities across Kentucky with an implementation date of November 1, intends to dramatically cut the number of children without health coverage by removing barriers to enrollment, retaining more children once they are enrolled and significantly increasing education and outreach regarding the program.  The plan hopes to enroll over 35,000 by FY2010.

Licking River Greenway

On Thursday, September 18, Vision 2015 will be presenting the preferred trails alternative for the Licking River Greenway and Trails. The primary goal of this initiative is to develop a multipurpose parks and trails system along the Licking River Corridor from the Ohio River to the I-275 loop. The Licking River Greenway will combine with Riverfront Commons to create a highly ambitious urban trail system.

Vision 2015 has been committed to community engagement throughout the development process.  Since last fall Woolpert and Human Nature have worked to examine the Licking River Greenway and develop the preferred trails alternative. The design team was advised by a steering committee representing local community leaders, governments, businesses, and environmental organizations. During the summer, Vision 2015 created a civic engagement team to seek further feedback from community groups, property owners, and local governments around the Licking River Greenway. The feedback was used by the consultants to create a final report that reflects the interests and priorities of the community at large.

The Licking River Greenway is an exciting, ambitious part of Vision 2015's regional parks goals.  Moving the project forward will require the continued engagement with community groups and input of interested individuals.  Please RSVP to:

SAIT photoSait Tarhan has been named Interim Arts District Manager.  Sait is a Covington native, born and raised.  He graduated from Holmes High School and attended the University of Kentucky where he received his Bachelor of Arts in Journalism with a minor in Theatre Arts.  He graduated from the University of Kentucky School of Law and thereafter practiced law in Covington for several years before moving to the West Coast.

Sait has been involved in arts management for many years.  He founded and operated Outside the Box Productions, a theatrical production company in Portland, OR that produced smaller venue stage productions in the greater Portland area.  During his tenure in the Northwest, Sait learned hands on a great deal about how thriving arts communities "live and breathe" and their overwhelmingly vital importance to the success of a culturally rich, diverse and vibrant city that takes a significant place in the 21st century landscape.

He is thrilled to be able to bring his varied skills, experience and talents back to the Covington community.

Invitation for Businesses to Participate

Once again, plans are underway for the 4th annual ART Off-Pike Arts & Music Festival to be held in the Arts District of downtown Covington.  This year's festival will be set-up with 50+ juried artists & arts organizations, a large music stage with a line-up of musicians and wine-tasting from Kentucky wineries.   It will be held on West Pike Street between Madison Avenue and Washington Streets on West 7th between Washington St. and the Arcade connecting West Pike & West 7th Streets.   ART Off-Pike is part of Enjoy the ARTS 20/20 Festival.

Part of our theme is to invite people to "spend the day in Covington" by coming to the festival and having lunch or dinner in one of the nearby restaurants.  We would like to have an information booth set-up with brochures, menus and/or flyers and possibly even offering a festival "SPECIAL".  This will bring FREE advertising to business participants, artists and give festival patrons a broader view of what Covington has to offer.

We also invite businesses to display the official ART Off-Pike posters in your windows and pass along festival information to clients and patrons.

If you would like to participate, please drop off your information to:
