Greetings!
Welcome to another OraMedia Newsletter.
(If the formatting of this email makes the text crowded and run to the edges, please click the link above: "Having trouble viewing this email?" Some email programs may not display properly.)
Here in South Carolina, Summer is nearly here after weeks and weeks of April-style rainy weather. After replacing all of the old and rotting wooden garden boxes from 2006, the garden is looking pretty good. While we are able to get something out of it year-round, now begins the time that we are really glad for all of the effort.
If any of you happen to also be gardeners then you understand if I tell you that we do pause from time to time to wonder if all of this work and expense is really worth what we get back in return - because it does take a lot of continuous time and effort. Of course, we snap out of it as soon as the thought of replacing our own fruits and vegetables with the grocery store versions, or not being able to stroll out for an 'inspection' and come back with a full belly.
The same holds true when it comes to properly caring for your teeth and gums . It also requires not only an investment in time and effort, but being diligent about your purpose, annoyingly thorough, regular in application, adherence to the basics and a willingness to tweak all of the above in order to smooth out and improve the hygiene process -- which sounds a little like... the principles of good gardening.
If you ever feel that taking good care of your teeth and gums is really just too much effort, you always have options, of course. Just like gardening vs the grocery store, there is always the option for the dentist's chair.
While sort of touching on the subject of gardening, please review Dr. Patricia Loofbourrow's 'How to Make Your Own Garden Landscape Design Plans' at the end of this newsletter. You may recall that she wrote 'Talk to Doctors So They Will Listen' which is included with Dr. Nara's 'Freedom From Dental Disease' bundle.
On with it.

Poll: Systemic Diseases
I was hoping to have at least 1000 responses before closing this poll. If you have a a minute to answer one multiple choice question, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Tom
Has your dentist or hygienist ever discussed with you the connection between dental diseases and other systemic illnesses, such heart disease or diabetes?

With this issue, it is my intention to focus on 'Inflammation', what it is and how inflammation can help in keeping us healthy, while at the same time be the scourge which can play a big role in systematically destroying the body. -Tom
Inflammation
- Dr. Ken Southward, from his book,
'The Simple Secrets to Better Health'
Recent research is revealing the connection of many diseases, including both gum disease and tooth decay, are related through the inflammatory process. Dentists always thought it was the bacteria breaking our teeth and gums down, now we are learning that the body's own immune system is the cause. This links oral diseases to cardiovascular disease, diabetes, some cancers and many others.
Inflammation is our body's normal defensive reaction to an irritant or stressor causing oxidative stress. Oral bacteria are an example. When the stress reaction or irritation they create is just on the surface, it is called gingivitis. When damage goes deeper to affect the bone and tooth support, it is called periodontal disease.

Dr. David M. Marquis, DC, DACBN
Inflammation controls our lives. Have you or a loved one dealt with pain, obesity, ADD/ADHD, peripheral neuropathy, diabetes, heart disease, stroke, migraines, thyroid issues, dental issues, or cancer?
If you answered yes to any of these disorders you are dealing with inflammation.
Sadly, most of us are suffering from one or more of these disorders but have no idea how to eliminate inflammation. Most doctors are utilizing pharmaceuticals in lieu of getting to the root cause.
It often seems extremely foreign to most people when they realize the majority of inflammatory diseases start in the gut with an autoimmune reaction which progresses into systemic inflammation. To truly be effective at managing or hopefully overcome a disease it needs to be addressed on all levels.
Taking a look at where this process starts is the key.
