Is This Interview Worth An Hour of Your Time??
In December, 2009, Dr. Nara was interviewed on Patrick Timpone's One Radio Network. I got a lot of good feedback from it and decided to call attention to it again.
"...The call was last Thursday, December
3, this is Wednesday. The abscess has settled down, ALL of the hot/cold
sensitivity is gone from all my teeth. I know I have a ways to go but
this is the first time I have actually had progress..."
We invite you to listen now..

Vitamin D Facts:
Vitamin D is necessary for normal absorption of calcium and phosphorus.
Vitamin D aids in putting these minerals into bones and teeth making them stronger and reducing your risk from brittle bones and lack of mineral resorption in the tooth re-mineralization process.
Since vitamin D is actually a hormone that works throughout the body, there
isn't any facet of health that it doesn't affect. Some of the more
commonly-known health benefits of vitamin D include: Helps
prevent many chronic diseases - Helps keep your bones and teeth
strong and healthy - Regulates the growth and activity of your cells - Reduces inflammation - Regulates immune system activity...

Greetings! Welcome to another OraMedia Newsletter. (If the formatting of this email makes the text crowded and run to the edges, please click the link above: "Having trouble
viewing this email?
Click
here". Some email servers may not display properly.) Since April 2, we have been entertaining several Polish relatives. Some, I am meeting for the first time. Saturday, 4/17, they were supposed to fly back to Krakow and be there on the 18th for their president's funeral at his final resting place, Wawel Castle, where the Polish Kings are entombed. Apparently, the Poles are divided over whether he should be laid at rest among their royalty. Many feel that he does not deserve to be... However, here at home at least, that was soon overshadowed Zubrowka - Polish 'Bison Grass' Vodka | by the presence of a large volcanic cloud covering much of Europe. The cloud prevented their return to Krakow and our return to a normal routine. Needless to say, I am - yet again - behind in getting this newsletter to you. More proof of the 'Butterfly Effect?' Yet I feel further enriched by the experience; improved Polish vocabulary, improved historical perspective, improved relationships, expanded waist line and renewed taste for Zubrowka. (I am, however, unable to locate any studies to verify Zubrowka's effectiveness in (safely) preventing gum disease...)
At this point, I wouldn't mind if they stuck around a while longer. I've grown fond of these good folks.
On with it.

Your Teeth and You: Five Facts Jeanne Grunert Most people know more about the inner
workings of their automobile engine than they do about their teeth... ...yet you rely on your teeth every day as the first step in the process
of digesting and assimilating your food. Just as understanding your
automobile ensures that you take proper care of it so it runs
efficiently and well for many years, so too is understanding your
teeth a critical first step to taking better and better care of them
to keep them healthy and intact for life. Here are five facts you may never have
known about your teeth. In subsequent articles, we'll look at more
facts and myths about those beautiful pearly whites.
Five Facts About Teeth
1. Your teeth began forming when you
were a seven week old fetus still in your mother's womb. A mother's
diet before conception, during pregnancy and while nursing her baby
plays a critical part in the dental health of her offspring. 2. Within the tooth itself as
thousands and thousands of microscopic tubes that bring nourishment
to each tooth. 3. The roots of the tooth not only
anchor it to the jawbone, they also provide passageways for the
nerve and circulatory system of each tooth. 4. Teeth are held into place by tiny
connective tissues that act as guy wires to anchor each tooth.
Without these little connectors, the force of each bite while
chewing would actually shatter the jaw. 5. The skin inside your mouth is only
one cell thick! Okay, so this isn't a fact about your teeth per se,
but it's an important fact to learn for oral health. Even a tiny
injury can allow harmful bacterial from the oral cavity into the
blood - which makes it critical to understand the biological
balance inside the mouth and take great care not to let it become a
harbor for harmful bacteria. When you purchased
your car, you probably spent several thousands to tens of thousands
of dollars on it. You probably glanced through the user's manual or
spoke with your mechanic about a routine maintenance schedule for it.
And whether you change the oil or take it in to the service station
for oil changes, you know that it needs some care. Now think about
your teeth. They were free and appeared through nature's miracle
timing in your mouth at just the right moment. Yet during the course
of a lifetime, you will have spent double, perhaps triple or more the
cost of your car purchase just on the care, maintenance and even
removal of your teeth.
How much wiser
would it be to pay attention to your teeth now and save all that
money! If you learn more facts about your teeth and truly understand
not just what they are but what they do and how they are made, you
can learn to take better care of them.

Has the FDA lost its mind-again?
April 13, 2010In the
latest volley of the US Food and Drug Administration's bizarre war on
scientific freedom of speech, the FDA has sent a Warning Letter to the
president and CEO of Diamond Foods stating that the firm's packages of
shelled walnuts are "in violation of the Federal Food, Drug, and
Cosmetic Act." Why? As Bill Faloon, co-founder of the Life Extension Foundation, explains in a powerful new investigative article,
Diamond Foods, a processor and distributor of nuts, dared to list some
of the health benefits of walnuts on its website. The FDA says that the
walnuts are being "promoted for conditions that cause them to be drugs
because these products are intended for use in the prevention,
mitigation, and treatment of disease." In other words, if you say
that a food is healthy and may help protect against heart disease, or
ease arthritis or inflammation, your words have magically changed that
food into a drug, and that's illegal. Life Extension magazine has
published no fewer than fifty-seven articles that describe the health
benefits of walnuts, each article supported with copious scientific
references. Yet the FDA says the walnuts "are not generally recognized
as safe and effective," that the manufacturer's "unauthorized health
claims" have caused the walnuts to become "misbranded," which makes them
subject to government "seizure or injunction"! Continued. Please read-Tom |

Vitamin D and Teeth Your best efforts at oral hygiene not producing the expected results?
Vitamin D and teeth are incredibly important, yet
almost completely overlooked in the medical field. When was the last
time your dentist suggested that you might want to take Vitamin D for
prevention of periodontal disease, gum disease and cavities? Never,
I'm sure. We all hear about the importance of calcium
for healthy bones and teeth, but the relationship of Vitamin D and
teeth is seldom talked about, yet it is just as important.
Prevention and treatment for periodontal disease
Vitamin D and periodontal disease are becoming inextricably linked.Periodontal
disease, which incidentally is ALSO a
Symptom
of H Pylori Infection,
is a weakening of the bone that
anchors the teeth. It leads to redness, bleeding and inflammation of the
gums (gingivitis) and may eventually lead to tooth loss if left
untreated. Vitamin D is extremely important in the process of keeping the teeth
anchored into their sockets. Vitamin D research has shown that people
with
Vitamin
D Deficiency
are much more likely to have periodontal disease for various reasons. One
reason is that the gene responsible for the expression
of periodontal disease may be controlled by a Vitamin D
receptor that is controlled by Vitamin D levels!!
This sounds complicated, but what it means is that Vitamin D
acts as a "controller" of the genes in almost every cell in your body.
When Vitamin D levels are too low, then the genes that are responsible
for a variety of problems - in this case periodontal disease - get
switched on and end up causing disease. Another
reason that Vitamin D affects periodontal disease in the Vitamin D and
Teeth equation is that, according to The Boston University Goldman
School of Dental Medicine, Vitamin D reduces gingivitis
because of the anti inflammatory effects of the vitamin. They
even suggest that gingivitis may be a "useful clinical model to evaluate
the anti-inflammatory effects of Vitamin D." This is interesting
because disease in any form does not exist without inflammation. And
Vitamin D deficiency is being correlated more and more with many disease
states that are unrelated. Unrelated except for the
presence of inflammation, that is!! Read entire article...
