Nomi Ross is responsible for the Lost Sock Club. Let's face it. We hang on to those single socks because they are perfectly beautiful and we are convinced the mate will show up sooner or later. Once we face up to the grim reality that the adventurous sock is never going to return we convince ourselves to throw it out. Hesitating, we try to kid ourselves that maybe the thrift store will take it, but that is the denial talking. No one wants our single socks. Nomi provides us with hope. She helps us cope with the loss and provides comfort for the sole. Nomi is one of several local vendors. Click on the link below to find out about other creative islanders. Then come into the shop the next time you need a gift or want to browse, and promote local economy. Feel free to bring in that beautiful sock and you never know, it might just become a monster! |

Check out Matt's new blog. He is going to keep you connected to the latest information about our salmon runs; especially, when they are available for consumption. One important fishing related matter that pertains to our local runs is explaining the link between farmed salmon, sea lice and wild salmon. View Watershed Watch's animation Wild Salmon in Trouble. It explains the link between farmed salmon, sea lice and wild salmon. Watch it!

Steps Wine Bar & Cafe Steps is a fantastic local restaurant that uses local food. Chef Surbaugh goes the extra mile when choosing food for his restaurant, and I don't mean mile in reference to petroleum footprint. He really uses the food grown here and around these islands. And then he creates dishes like no other. Madden is unique. We often find ourselves walking and interacting with individuals who are doing great things on this island or who have retired here after having done great things in the world. I think we may not know what we have here and the best way to show you is to have you read the testimonials from other people. I feel very strongly about spending money to help our friends and neighbors who are helping our friends and neighbors. I have watched Madden take time to talk to our island's youth. I have seen him take time out of his very busy schedule for the things that matter in life. Recommending this restaurant to your family and friends and visiting his restaurant occassionally or regularly will be a great investment on many different levels. Live in the moment and appreciate what we have while we have it. Just as you don't miss a wedding or a funeral, you must not miss dining at Steps Restaurant. |
