Ranker's farm internship bill for farmers passes Senate 46-0

Kevin Ranker just sponsored a bill helping farmers on the island and throughout the state by allowing them to have interns without inappropriate Labor and Industry restrictions--this is HUGELY helpful, and looked at one point like it might not happen.  Kevin got it passed unanimously 46-0

It's WA SB 6349.  Click on the link to read more.  Simply another politician?  This is a working man!

Easy homework assignments:

1.  Write or call Kevin Ranker and thank him!  We're lucky to have Kevin pulling for us.  Without this bill farmers would have almost insurmountable obstacles to pass farming skills to a new generation of willing young farmers.winter veggies photo credit Becky Bolt

2. Now it goes to the House for consideration. Can you contact our state representative Jeff Morris: http://housedemocrats.wa.gov/members/morris/ or whoever your WA state rep is in your district, and tell him or her this needs to pass?

PrithaSo you see, first we need to let Kevin know that he did the right thing and we are thankful and next we need to tell the house that this bill needs to pass.  Kevin is working hard and making things happen--not a lot of chit-chat--just getting positive things done.

Many people worked hard to make this happen, including Jim Sesby, who gave compelling testimony at the Senate Hearings in Olympia.  Matt Marinkovich also wrote a letter in support of this bill.  The bill originated in our county's hard-working Agricultural Resources Committee (ARC).  It will help local farms that are such an important part of our economy (another reason why it is so important that the ARC is funded).

People speaking up really makes a difference!  You can make a difference!

A handful of people are capable of great things!  And here we have more good news today regarding the recognition of the impact of open containment fish farms on the migratory paths of wild salmon.

Most astonishing is the warning sent today to Canada from former Attorney General of Norway, Georg Fredrik Rieber-Mohn,

"we  had an open goal to save wild salmon but we missed the target,"...."If you  want to protect wild salmon then you have to move salmon farms away from  migration routes. "
