Leonetti 2012 Sangiovese - $109.90
"A step up over the 2011, the 2012 Sangiovese, which incorporates 7% Syrah, offers classic cedar, spice, earth and dusty minerality to go with plenty of black raspberry and black cherry-styled fruit. Medium-bodied, nicely textured and elegant, with mid-weight richness and fine tannin, it will drink nicely on release and evolve through 2022."

Leonetti 2013 Merlot - $123.90
"A blend of 92% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Franc from the Loess, Mill Creek Upland and Leonetti Old Block vineyards. As pure and linear an expression of Walla Walla Merlot that you might imagine. Simply gorgeous red and black fruits, especially blueberries, raspberries, and hints of dried apricot. The mouth feel is so wonderfully plush, delicious, and expansive. This wine just makes me smile with pleasure and is everything I love about Walla Walla Merlot. The addition of 8% Cabernet Franc from old vines at the Leonetti Estate contributes lovely violet aromatics and glycerin to the palette."

Leonetti 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon - $153.90
"Also from barrel sample, the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon gives up knockout creme de cassis, scorched earth, lead pencil and burning ember-like qualities to go with a full-bodied, decadently textured profile on the palate. Possessing plenty of sweet tannin and ample concentration, it stays remarkably graceful and elegant on the palate. It will evolve nicely for two decade or more."

Leonetti 2012 Reserve - $234.90
"The 2012 Reserve is another gorgeous Bordeaux blend by Chris. Made from 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot and equal parts Malbec and Petit Verdot, it offers up plenty of cassis, licorice and chocolate in its sexy, seamless and incredibly polished profile. Concentrated, with plenty of tannin, it will round into form with a few years in the cellar and, like the straight Cabernet, have two decades or more of longevity."

Leonetti 2011 Sangiovese - $99.90
"Starting out the 2011s and a pretty effort, the 2011 Sangiovese offers bright cherry, underbrush, hints of pepper and plenty of cedar to go with a medium to full-bodied, juicy and lightly textured profile on the palate. It has real Sangiovese character, beautiful purity and at least a decade of longevity."

Leonetti 2012 Merlot - $109.90
"The 2012 Merlot, which was already in bottle at the time of this tasting, offers an elegant, yet sexy style, with gorgeous black raspberry and creme de cassis fruit, toast, dried spices and licorice, with hints of background tobacco and green herbs, all emerging from the glass. Medium to full-bodied, plump, pure and layered, with a fabulous texture and a big finish, it's a beautiful wine to drink over the coming decade or more."

Leonetti 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon - $134.90
"The best of the 2011s, the 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon is Pauillac-like with its gorgeous creme de cassis, lead pencil shavings, tobacco leaf and graphite styled aromas and flavors. Medium to full-bodied, pure, silky and layered on the palate, with a broad frame and sweet tannin, it's already approachable, yet will evolve nicely for 5-7 years and hold for a decade after that."

Leonetti 2009 Reserve - $184.90
"The wine known simply as Leonetti 2009 Reserve is, in fact, 92% Cabernet Sauvignon (the rest Merlot), a major departure from the norm of two-thirds to three quarters established in its previous eleven vintages (other exceptions being 2000 and 2001 when the Cabernet share dipped to less than half). Interestingly, too, Petit Verdot vines have contributed a significant share of each earlier Reserve bottling since their first crop, 2000, but this year dropped out on account of having been hit by the late frost. While at 14.7% virtually identical in alcohol to the corresponding Cabernet Sauvignon bottling, this 2009 Reserve comes off as significantly fuller-bodied. It also misses the vibrancy of its ostensibly lesser sibling. "For the reserve," notes Chris Figgins, "we look for lots that are more backward and brooding," and he certainly was rewarded this year. Ripe, lightly-confitured cassis and mulberry are mingled with toasted nuts, peat, and dark Burley tobacco. High-toned suggestions of camphor, mint, and gentian distillate emerge with aeration. The amplitude and sheer fruit intensity here comes along with a palpable if well-coated tannic undergirding; and the finish splendidly soothes and sustains. The longer this was open to the air, the greater its appeal; and I'm only sorry I could not follow it for a second day. Look for at least 15 years of profound pleasure not to mention persistent contrast with the corresponding Cabernet bottling."

Leonetti 2011 Reserve - $194.90
"The 2011 Reserve is 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot, 7% Petit Verdot and 7% Cabernet Franc that spent 20 months in once-filled French oak barrels. Offering more black cherry, black currant, licorice, tobacco and spring flower-like qualities on the nose, this serious 2011 has fantastic mid-palate depth, integrated acidity and a medium to full-bodied, seamless and elegant personality that's hard to resist. It too will drink beautifully through 2031."
