Greetings!
Friday we will be back on the Peaks course following overseeding and the new season begins. Later this month you will receive an email concerning things like pace-of-play and care of the courses. Please watch for this and work with all of our members in creating the best experience for us, our guests and potential new members. Not much is more of a turn-off to a prospect than a five-hour round! As the new season begins lets enjoy the great courses and amenities that we have here in Tonto Verde.
BILLING CHANGE NOTICE
Beginning November 1st TVGC billing will be handled in house. You will receive an e-mail explaining this in detail. If you have not received this information by Tuesday, October 22nd, please contact Tenna Dillon at tdillon@tontogolf.com.

From The President
The TVGC Board of Directors did not have a conference call meeting in October. Most of the important agenda items are being worked on and will be reported at the November meeting.
Last spring the Board determined six "Critical Issues" which will be our focus for this year. The definition of a critical issue is one that wakes you up in the middle of the night with some concern. We all have them in our lives.
The critical issues which I reported to the membership at our Town Hall meeting in April include:
Most Important:
- Membership
- Financial Stability
- The spirit of "One Great Community"
Important:
- The Golf Course
- People - Succession Plans (for employees, committees and the Board)
- Administrative Systems
There are activities in progress in each of these areas and the Board will be transparent as we move forward to keep the membership current.

| From The Course | Good to see some familiar faces starting to return to Tonto in the past couple weeks.
The Peaks golf course is growing in nicely, we will have at least three cuts on all areas prior to opening on Friday. You'll see some minor changes this year that I think most will really enjoy. The crew have been working extremely hard to make 2013-14 another successful season at Tonto Verde.
We have opened the chipping green area for those diehards that can't stand to bare 4 days without any golf! The south practice tee will open this Friday, October 18 along with the Peaks course. Please be reminded that we will be CART PATH ONLY for 4-5 weeks or until turf conditions are suitable to allow cart traffic.
#10 Peaks looking almost ready!
Today we start our overseed preparations on the Ranch golf course as well as the Putting Course, North tee and target areas. With temperatures ranging from the high 50's to low 80's growing conditions are perfect for ryegrass.
Our "Boot the Salt" KCL program will continue this season. Please order through my email at dhall@tontogolf.com. This will now be charged straight to your member account, versus previously myself or "Aussie KCL". Deliveries will be every other Thursday, starting October 24 and running through until April 24, 2014. Thank you again in advance to those who support the program.
The Desert Maintenance crew are currently on #2 of the Ranch course, once completing 2 and 1, they will spend some time around the practice fairway areas before resuming in a reverse order around the Peaks Course.
Congratulations go out to Rene Zazuetta for being voted September's Employee of the Month. Rene is an extremely valuable employee who gives his all day in, day out.
On behalf of the Golf Course Maintenance team,
Dean Hall
Golf Course Superintendent

Peaks Overseed 2013-2014
After considerable discussion the Greens Committee, supported by the Board, has decided not to overseed much of the rough on the Peaks this season. Holes #1, 7, 9, 10, & 18 will continue as in the past winters with full overseeding. Green surrounds (the Green Complex) will be overseeded; that is either side of the green - desert to cart path and 30-40 yards from the green to the fairway.
The benefits of this approach include:
- Healthier Bermuda rough. Studies show overseeding causes 10% loss of Bermuda each year - mostly in the rough areas due to higher height of cut causing considerable shade to the underlying Bermuda.
- Reduction of weeds on the turf and desert perimeters due to less irrigation of the rough.
- Help in eradicating Poa annua by having dormant rough.
- Water-wise, using less irrigation.
- Cost effective - saving considerably on seed and labor.
- It is consistent with practices by many of the courses in this area.
While this decision will offer a different appearance to the course this year, the Greens Committee and Board feel the benefits far outweigh any perceived negatives. This approach will be evaluated at the end of the season for consideration in the future.
Mike Gogel, who we've hired to complete our Master Plan this year, commented. "I am very pleased with the decision made by Dean, the Greens Committee and Board of Directors. Considering all the variables that were weighed, in addition to looking at the future of the course, this "break" in overseeding will give Dean and his staff the opportunity to continue improving the overall turf health, not just this year but for years to come."
The Ranch course will continue on the same program as previous seasons.
Thank you for your confidence and trust in our professional staff, the Greens Committee and Board of Directors.

Notes From The MGA
This is a final reminder to sign up for the MGA opening breakfast and golf event on Wednesday, October 30. Breakfast is at 8:00 with a shotgun golf event at 9:30. We will be playing on the Peaks course. You can sign up now. Go to the new a Tonto Verde web site, www.TontoVerde.org, and click on golf then events then MGA Opening Day Shotgun, and follow the sign up instructions. If you don't want breakfast, you can sign up for just the golf. The pro shop will be putting together a team event with an A, B, C, and D player in each foursome.
When you sign up, you can also indicate that you want to try and qualify to play in the Interclub event at Wigwam on Monday, November 11. Qualifiers are selected from various handicap levels in an effort to give all members an opportunity to play at other course in the area.
There is still time to sign up for Fall Best Ball. Get together with one of your golfing buddies and sign up. Teams are grouped by combined handicaps with five teams in each group.
And remember, Wednesday is men's day. If you are not interested in participating in Fall Best Ball, there is always a corresponding men's event for all other MGA members. The pro shop will put together the event. You can either organize your own foursome and play, or let the pro shop know and they will put in with a group. Keep in mind, whether you play in Fall Best Ball or in the corresponding men's day event, you earn a point towards qualifying for our season ending MGA Cup event.
We hope to see you all at the opening breakfast as we start a new season of Tonto Verde golf.
Russ Chance
TVMGA President

Tree and Shrub Trimming Policy
In an earlier email we described a collaborative effort to enhance the aesthetics of the Tonto Verde Community, the Tonto Verde Golf Club and its Golf Course Superintendent, Green Committee and the Tonto Verde Associations have established a Golf Course Desert Maintenance Policy. As part of this policy the Golf Club has adopted procedures for those homeowners desirous of having trees or shrubs on the golf course trimmed for their benefit. In the transition to the new website the links to the Policy, Request for Permission To Trim Trees and the approved Desert Maintenance Providers have changed. To access the Policy Click Here, the Request For Permission To Trim Trees Click Here and for approved Desert Maintenance Providers Click Here. The documents can also be found on the website under the Documents heading in the Tonto Verde Golf Club Documents section.
