As you may have seen in the Tonto Times as of October 1st the TVA is launching a beautiful, new and improved, Tonto Verde branded website. The Golf Club will share this site as soon as some technical details are addressed. Once this is completed the websites will become totally integrated into one community website at www.tontoverde.org.
In case you missed it in the Tonto Times, this transition will be a great benefit to all members. First, you will now have only one log-in. You will no longer need a separate log-in for the TVA and the TVGC's websites. It will provide quicker and easier access to everything meaning one website will do it all for you! You can make a tee time, check on event results, peruse and register for any event (TVA or TVGC), check out the latest restaurant menu...all on one site.

 | Notes From Your Pro | Greetings golf members! October is here and the tee sheets are starting to reflect it. Being that most courses around the valley are closed down for overseeding, we get to be a very popular place for reciprocal play this time of year. The golf shop is now open seven days a week from 6:30am-5pm. Many event sign ups have opened on ForeTees including MGA, WGA, NDA opening days along with Fall Best Ball (formerly Mini Monday) and the We are the World couples event. "
A few noteworthy items:
- We've received the final ratings/slopes from the AWGA for the ladies tees on the Ranch as well as the Peaks. They are as follows:
Ranch Peaks
Red 72.7/132 from 72.4/131 Red 71.2/124 from 70.1/119
Red/Gold 71.6/126 from 71.4/124 Red/Gold 69.5/118 from 68.8/115
Gold 70.8/124 from 70.5/123 Gold 68.3/114 from 67.2/106
New scorecards have been ordered and will be put into use as soon as we receive them. The new ratings/slopes will be activated by the AGA and AWGA at that time.
- Both golf courses and the golf shop will be closed from October 14th-17th as our overseeding schedule overlaps during that four-day period.
- Individual carts will no longer be permitted so please allow yourself time to consolidate before getting to the tee.
Until next time, keep em flying long and straight!

 | From The Course | One down, one to go! The Peaks golf course overseed preparation and seeding went really well. We had some strong winds last Thursday that slowed us down a little, but we were still able to complete everything by Friday evening which was great! Now we just turn the water on and anxiously await it to pop up. Seed germination usually takes 5-7 days, by around day 10 we will be mowing for the first time. After that the fun starts, with plenty of fertility, fungicide applications and general health building of the turfgrass for the upcoming season.
The Ranch course will close for overseed Monday October 14, the Peaks re-opens from overseed Friday October 18. As usual we would expect a month of "Cart Path Only" depending on growth conditions and the overall health of the overseed. We appreciate your cooperation in advance for this important time of year. This season, I plan on conducting a series of "Open House" days where you, the members, can have the opportunity to come down to your maintenance facility and experience a little more detailed inside look at what goes on behind the scenes. We have now had a couple years to get things cleaned up and organized and being that golf course maintenance is a major part of the overall annual budget, I would like to demonstrate to our membership exactly what goes on behind the scenes. Stay tuned for further details and dates. I know we are up against it, as usual, but all the best to the "Internationals" at this week's President's Cup. Either way, I'm sure it will be great viewing. On behalf of the Golf Course Maintenance team, Dean Hall Golf Course Superintendent |
 | From The Membership Committee |
After a pretty quiet summer, membership activity has started to pick up as we head into the fall. Last spring, in addition to regular new members, we had a handful of new members take advantage of the new Non Resident membership plan, and also the new Flex membership plan which is designed for those people who have not yet quite retired and are only able to spend 4 to 12 weeks a year with us. If you know any folks like that, encourage them to visit and talk with Gary Loving about the program.
Please welcome our newest members Steve and Janice Hamann. Also welcome back William and Rosemary Ralls. The Ralls were on the surrender list but took advantage of our 2013 amnesty program. Speaking of the Surrender List Amnesty program, if you know of any past members who might be candidates to return, now would be a great time to encourage them to take advantage of the program. No back dues are required this year to rejoin. Please have them contact Gary Loving if you know of anyone with the interest.
The Membership Committee worked in conjunction with the Golf Committee and updated and merged the Golfers Guide and the Rules and Regulations into one new document called the Players Handbook. It is currently being printed and also will be available on line on FourTees within the next week.

UPCOMING MGA CALENDAR
Remember, MGA opening day is Oct 30th with a 9:30 am shotgun. We'll have a breakfast meeting at 8:00 am that day. Check out the Event Calendar on ForeTees to sign up for all of the upcoming men's events. You and your partner need to be signed up for the Fall Best Ball by October 31st in order to participate. We are working in 4 Fall Best Ball dates before Thanksgiving, November 6th, 13th, 18th and 20th. On those event days, tee times have also been set aside and an event will be set up by the Pro Shop for any MGA members not in the Best Ball tournament who wish to play on those days. There will also be MGA tee times set aside and a Pro Shop event on non best ball dates for anyone wishing to participate. You can Click Here for the full golf Event Calendar and to register.

Welcome Back Women's Golf Association Members
November is fast approaching! By now you should have received by email a welcome back letter from our WGA President Cheryl Potter. If you haven't received it and you are a member or if you would like to be a member, please email me, Karyn Lyle at karynlyle@msn.com. We are trying very hard this year to get our databases coordinated and correct. We will not be printing our "little book" this season but hope to have its equivalent available on ForeTees. Our ForeTees system is going to be invaluable to us so if you are not yet comfortable with how it works, also please let me know.
On Tuesday November 5 we will be having our season opener shotgun shamble at 1:00 pm. A welcome back party will follow with a no host bar at the clubhouse. Even if you can't golf that day please come. You can RSVP on the "Club Events" tab on ForeTees. For those who wish to golf and attend, please sign up on ForeTees starting Oct. 1.
If you have any questions at all about the WGA, please email me and I will do my best to get you the information you need. I would especially like to hear from you if you are new to Tonto and need a buddy to get you started.

 | From The Couples Golf Association (CGA) |
The kickoff for couples 18 hole events will be the "We Are The World" event on Nov. 10. The format will be Modified Stableford 1 ball woman, 1 ball man. Always a fun day with a slight twist! The shotgun will be at 1:00 with dinner following and will cost $85 per couple. Signup starts on ForeTees on Oct. 1. You may sign up as a foursome or as a twosome (must be a man and a woman) with another couple. This event will be limited to 48 couples.
Also, the nine hole Friday night couples events will start in November. These will be listed on ForeTees and will be held about every two weeks. Stay tuned for many other couples events this year including a new Round Robin Match Play tournament.
The Couples Committee would like to expand to another couple of members. If you are interested, contact Chair Dick Danais, rdanais@danaisrealty.com or any of the other committee members. We meet once a month and oversee all the couples events during the year. A very fun committee to be on and very little time involvement.

 | From Nine & Dine (NDA) |
As we look forward to beginning our new season, your 2013/2014 NDA officers and committee chairs would like to extend a warm welcome to all. If you have chosen NOT to play golf as a NDA regular member, please consider joining us as an NDA SOCIAL MEMBER.
Committee Changes:
The NDA would like to thank two NDA Committee Chairpersons who initially volunteered to serve on the 2013/2014 NDA Board, but due to personal issues that, understandably, demand more time and attention, Val Jessen (Social Chair) and Barb Rottunda (Membership Co-Chair) have requested resignation. We wish them well and they will, truly, be missed.
In keeping with ongoing NDA spirit and willingness to help, two NDA members have graciously come forward.
It is my pleasure to announce the following appointments to the 2013/2014 NDA Board:
Sue Long has accepted the position of NDA Social Committee Chair. She will primarily be responsible for overseeing the NDA Monthly Business Meeting luncheon menu, as well as room and table decorations.
Sue can be contacted at: 471-4602 or seplong@cox.net
Barb Magna has accepted the position of NDA Membership Co-Chair, joining Co-Chair, Molly Casey. Together they will be a dynamic duo in welcoming and encouraging new Tonto Verde Golf Members to join the NDA. In addition, Barb and Molly will be promoting the NDA's Social Membership program this season.
Barb can be contacted at 471-7090 or barbmagna@yahoo.com
Sue and Barb are long-time members of the NDA and we are most fortunate that they are willing to share their time and many talents in making this yet another spectacular NDA season!
CALENDAR:
Nov. 4th - NDA Welcome Back Wine & Cheese Social at Linda Carpenter's home, 3:00 pm
Please sign up on Foretees beginning Oct. 1st
Nov. 5th - NDA Opening Day: Golf with a shotgun start at 9:00 am.
Business meeting & luncheon immediately following golf. Please sign up on ForeTees.
