CSI ON THE MOVE

Never let it be said that CSI is bound by a traditional way of doing things. Today's leadership is always looking for new ways to engage members and create new CSI experiences.

CONSTRUCT Baltimore was a prime example. Many CSI leadership events were all new. Fellowship and Institute honors were not limited to a high end formal gala but rather celebrated at events open to all members. A highly successful CSI Night Out gave hundreds of CSI attendees a chance to engage and enjoy their CSI colleagues in a casual club atmosphere. The CSI 5K Fun Run was held for the 3rd year - and despite this runner's accident, it was another fine example of CSI camaraderie.

This is indeed an innovative and valuable organization. It combines high level construction industry education with quality social and professional networking. If you're not yet engaged, new opportunities are just around the corner!

SOUTHWEST REGION LEADS

Jori Smith, CSI, CDT, LEED AP BD+C, Southwest Region President

When bagpipes are involved, you know something interesting is going on.

Appropriately kilted Michael Young of the Denver chapter piped the procession along the inner harbor to Baltimore's World Trade Center on Tuesday evening, Sept. 9. Tourists grabbed photos of it all - not clear who or what we were, but wanting to make sure they recorded the event for posterity anyway. It was a celebration of the four CSI members who had just been elevated to Fellowship - including Ann Baker of the Denver and Pikes Peak chapters. Then Paul Simonsen, FCSI, of the Phoenix and Albuquerque chapters, was made a CSI Distinguished Member the next morning! He joins a group of less than fifty so honored in the history of CSI. Ann and Paul, we couldn't be prouder that you call the Southwest Region home! Because of members like you, we are a small but mighty region!

These and other CSI events are just part of what makes CONSTRUCT such a great experience every year. So many educational offerings that I had trouble choosing which to attend; the opportunity to meet peers from all over the country; inspiration both personal and professional; the chance to try on the garb of leadership - all happen at CONSTRUCT. All this is in addition to the myriad building solutions on display at the Product Show. I always go home with pages of notes regarding issues to follow up on at work, ideas for new strategies, solutions to specific problems, and ways to help our industry evolve. The value for your educational dollars can't be beat. This event is NOT just for the leaders of CSI! If you haven't taken advantage of this national event yet, please take a serious look at attending next year - in St. Louis, MO. I hope to see you there!

CONSTRUCT Baltimore
September 9-12, 2014

It was an awesome event for the Southwest Region. As Jori describes above, two of our own, Paul Simonsen, RA, FCSI, CCS, CCCA, LEED AP, SCIP and Ann Baker, RA, FCSI, CCS, CCCA, LEED AP, SCIP were each awarded one of Institute's highest honors. Well deserved!

Several members of our Region were presenters at CONSTRUCT Education seminars. These included Albuquerque's Joy Davis and Denver's Liz O'Sullivan and Greg Markling,

Southwest Region members at CONSTRUCT enjoyed an evening meetup at Phillips Seafood on the Baltimore waterfront, and the caucus was also well attended. Another highlight was Denver's Mike Young leading a CSI procession to the Fellowship celebration with bagpipes and in full Scottish attire. Yes, Mike, another picture of you in a skirt.

Southwest Region, Institute's smallest in terms of members, always stands out among the leaders of CSI. Let's keep up the momentum in FY2015!
