Medical Device Tax
 Dentists, along with hospitals, nursing homes, and insurers, have been worried that they will end up paying for the medical-device tax. In talking points given to dentists this year to raise when talking with their members of Congress and senators, the ADA said: "The tax will increase the cost of dental care by $160 million annually ... Medical device manufacturers, producers and importers are passing the increased cost on to dental providers. While patients may see treatment fees increase as a result of the tax, much of the cost will be borne by dentists due to the nature of dental insurance" ... Read more

Amgen And AstraZeneca Highlight Data To Be Presented At 22nd Congress Of The European Academy Of Dermatology And Venereology
 Amgen and AstraZeneca are collaborating in developing brodalumab, a human monoclonal antibody -- to target interleukin-17 (IL-17) receptor for treating moderate to severe psoriasis. "The Phase 2 data demonstrate that the primary and secondary end points were met, including many patients achieving and maintaining total skin clearance with continued brodalumab therapy," said Sean E. Arrowhead Completes Enrollment in Phase 1 Study of ARC-520 for the Treatment of Chronic Hepatitis B
The Pasadena-based Arrowhead Research announced that it completed enrollment in a Phase 1 clinical trial of ARC-520, its RNAi-based candidate against chronic hepatitis B virus infection. Initial data indicate that ARC-520 is generally safe and well tolerated at all six dose levels studied, enabling the company to proceed with plans to initiate a Phase 2a pilot efficacy study in chronic HBV patients .... Puma Biotechnology Initiates Phase II Trial of PB272 (Neratinib) in HER2 Mutation-Positive Solid Tumor Patients
 The Los Angeles-based Puma announced that its Phase II basket trial will be an open-label, multicenter, multinational study to evaluate the safety and efficacy of PB272 administered daily to patients who have solid tumors with activating HER2 mutations. The study will initially include 6 cohorts (baskets) of patients, each of which will include one of the following cancers: (1) bladder/urinary tract cancer; (2) colorectal cancer; (3) endometrial cancer; (4) gastric/esophageal cancer; (5) ovarian cancer; and (6) all other solid tumors (including prostate, melanoma and pancreatic cancer) ....
