Regional Meeting Highlight:Toler Presentation
Students Impress Region 4 Attendees

One of the highlights of the PMI Region 4 Meeting was a presentation by students who completed a project management class at a local secondary school in Duanesburg, New York, USA.

Connie Toler, PMP, a secondary school teacher and former project manager, designed and piloted a business class that incorporated project management skills and knowledge. The curricula was based on PMIEF's PM Toolkit for Youth. The PMI Upstate New York Chapter also participated in the class as mentors and guest lecturers.

During the presentation, Connie and five students shared their experiences and the challenges they encountered managing their projects.  One project included working with the school's drama club and its production of the Little Shop of Horrors. After the presentation, the students fielded numerous questions from the audience. It was clear that the students not only had fun, but they also learned project management concepts as well as how to apply this knowledge in other classes and in their life.

The students also told the audience that the key reason that they were so engaged was because PMI members participated and brought 'real world' experience into the classroom.

Region 4 attendees left the meeting with an appreciation of the positive impact that PMI members can have on the lives of our kids. Kudos to Connie Toler, her students, and the Upstate New York Chapter!
