Sympathynet.com allows family and friends who are out-of-town or unable to attend a funeral to view the service virtually by watching it live on the funeral home's own website. Hundreds of funeral professionals have joined with Sympathynet, recognizing a unique alternative to offer consumers with absent loved ones who cannot attend services in person. The streaming video runs in real time with mp3 quality audio. Events can be set up in less than 3 minutes and are kept 100% private. ASD has partnered with Sympathynet to help funeral directors reduce their costs while also providing a unique option to families that have relatives located in different regions. Mutual clients can take advantage of a free trial of Sympathynet's webcasting services and discounts on membership packages. ASD's clients will also receive a reduced price on Sympathynet's limited number of refurbished Kodak High Speed Scanner and earn substantial credits towards their monthly ASD bill.
"The technology and ease of use of the Sympathynet Broadcasting System has allowed us to offer our clients the opportunity to invite their extended family and friends to join with them at funeral services, eliminating the difficulties that may arise due to weather, long distance travel or personal issues." -Samuel A. Green, Abraham L. Green & Son Funeral Home in Fairfield, CT. For more information, click here. |
We're so happy that Spring has finally arrived here at ASD and that the Winter snow has melted. Just look at how our building looked a few months ago. But wait, look again. Sometimes appearances can be deceiving. Many of our employees saw this picture and believed someone built a child-sized snowman from a minor snowfall of only 2 inches. But take a closer look...the snowman in this picture is only six inches tall, sitting on top of a picnic bench outside our offices. Did it fool you too?
In life, there are many examples of illusions like the ASD snowman that appear to be one thing, but end up looking completely different from another angle. How many times have you been sold a product or service only to find it lacking after closer inspection? Many companies focus on building and maintaining a facade to distract from inadequacies like unreliable technology, high turnover, poor leadership, and uncommitted staff members. ASD is different: from day one we have promoted transparent business practices that allow funeral professionals to truly evaluate every aspect of our service. Click here to learn more. |

We are excited to welcome Juan Silva to ASD's talented marketing team. Juan has been with ASD since 2009 and was recently promoted from his position as a Call Specialist Trainer to a Graphic Designer position. Juan
received his graphic design education from The University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA while working part time here at ASD.
Juan was a natural choice for the position because of his exemplary performance as an ASD Call Specialist. Over the past three years, his compassionate phone demeanor, strong attention to detail and proven reliability did not go unnoticed by our Operations team, who promoted Juan to a Training Specialist position last year. Juan's background in the ASD call center will help shape his graphic design work. This type of cross training is common throughout every department at ASD. During busier times, management, sales and finance employees assist callers to provide an extra layer of support. Many might be surprised to learn how essential the graphic designer is to the ASD team. Clients rely on ASD's user-friendly web interface and helpful graphic-based tutorials. These images allow funeral professionals to visualize how to use our features and mobile tools and enhances their experience with our service. Internally, Juan's graphics provide important visual cues for new hires using ASD's sophisticated training program.

The funeral profession is no ordinary career. It is a tradition passed down from one generation to the next. This month, ASD would like to honor three family-owned funeral homes that are celebrating their 100th anniversary this year. For over a century, these firms have been committed to providing outstanding service to their communities:
Thatcher's Funeral Home in Kansas City, Kansas. |
ASD Staff Is Professional and Compassionate in All Situations! Each week, ASD awards four employees with an "Outstanding Service Award". "Outstanding Service Awards" are given to ASD Staff who exhibit the sensitivity and attention to detail that set ASD apart from other answering services. Recent examples of "Outstanding Service Awards": - Training Specialist, Chris, determined that a caller who was only asking for directions actually wanted to stop by the funeral home to set up arrangements.
- Assistant Supervisor, Rachel, compassionately assisted a caller who was in a nursing home and wanted to know the details for her sister's funeral.
- Call Specialist, Christina, calmly defused an irrational caller who wanted to speak to someone attending a funeral in progress.
- Supervisor, Jen, spoke with a well-known public figure and handled the call with absolute professionalism.
