Greetings!
In many parts of the world, the middle of February means gray days with little warmth or light. The theme of the International Christian Science Nursing Conference held last September at the CedarS Camps in Lebanon, Missouri was "Dwelling in the Light." We thought you would welcome a few more rays of light from the Conference to brighten your winter days. On page 504 of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy wrote, "The rays of infinite Truth, when gathered into the focus of ideas, bring light instantaneously..."

The articles in this issue were written by the Christian Science nurses and others who conducted workshops on some very practical topics at the Conference. To gain greater insight into "angel's food" read Sharon Strong's article. To learn about bathing Christian Science nursing patients with joy and peace, you won't want to miss Katherine Lundberg's contribution. Jenni Hebert helps us to think about managing our personal finances with balance and grace. Maggie Davies gives us a snapshot of what it's like to be a Christian Science nurse at a camp for Christian Scientists. And singer/songwriter Désirée Goyette shares her thoughts about what it was like to experience being part of the Conference, to mention just a few of the rays of light included in this issue. So read on and enjoy dwelling in the light!

Notes from a Musical Bystander
Desiree GoyetteBy Désirée Goyette
The campfire was still crackling as strangers-soon to be friends-headed off to hunker down for the night, tummies teeming with anticipation and s'mores. CedarS Director, Warren Huff greeted me with open arms and an absolutely beaming smile. "Ah, major signs of light already!" I thought. "Dwelling in the Light" being the theme, I found myself noticing it everywhere, even at 11 p.m. on the dimly...Read More

Personal Finance Workshop with Jenni Hebert
Most of us need a basic course in personal finance to be better money managers at home and with other family members. This workshop focused on staying in balance, understanding what the financial choices are, learning to share your financial concerns and ideas with others, and planning a basic budget. It ended with some spiritual...Read More

Foods Workshop with Sharon Strong
Sharon StrongWhen thinking freshly about the topic of foods in Christian Science nursing, I found this verse in Psalms (78:25) intriguing: "Man did eat angels' food:..." What could that mean to me as a Christian Science nurse? Mrs. Eddy refers to angels in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures as, "God's thoughts passing to man; spiritual intuitions, pure and perfect; the inspiration of goodness, purity, and immortality, counteracting all evil, sensuality, and mortality." And,...Read More

Bandaging Workshop with Esther Joscelyn
Esther JoscelynThe workshop opened with a verse from that week's Bible Lesson; "Days should speak, and multitude of years should teach wisdom. But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding." (Job 32:7 Days, 8) Esther commented that this Bible verse had indicated to her that although we are taught a specific way of doing a bandaging turn, we should adapt it to the need of the patient we are working with at the time we are working, rather than being...Read More

Small Christian Science Homes Workshop
with Kerry Reed
Kerry ReedWhile enduring the agonies of the cross, our Master did four things. He forgave his tormentors; he encouraged the repentant criminal beside him; he let go of his earthly life and somewhere in the middle of all of that, he found his mother a new home... (see John 19:25-27).

Starting a Private-duty Practice Workshop
with Katherine C. Pennington
Katherine C. PenningtonThere are many ways to serve in the ministry of Christian Science nursing. Serving as a private-duty Christian Science nurse is one where you are definitely a "light of the world" which offers an opportunity to work one-on-one with the patient and Christian Science practitioner in a private setting.

This workshop gave a brief overview of some of the basic responsibilities, legal, and financial...Read More

Mental Impositions Workshop with Katherine Lundberg
Katherine LundbergBathed in Joy and Peace
It is always a joy to uncover loving care options to meet the care needs of individuals who are working to heal mental impositions. Challenges they face may involve a dislike or fear of running water, bathing, or shampooing. The concepts behind the care options detailed below are the nursing qualities detailed by Mary Baker Eddy-"The nurse should be cheerful, orderly, punctual, patient, full of faith,-receptive...Read More
