Starting a Private-duty Practice Workshop
Presented by Katherine C. Pennington |
There are many ways to serve in the ministry of Christian Science nursing. Serving as a private-duty Christian Science nurse is one where you are definitely a "light of the world" which offers an opportunity to work one-on-one with the patient and Christian Science practitioner in a private setting.
This workshop gave a brief overview of some of the basic responsibilities, legal, and financial needs of a private-duty practice and discussed the question, "Is this for me?" and if yes, then," How do I begin?"
The following information was touched upon:
· Why would you choose Christian Science nursing in a private setting? · Are you being lead to Private Duty and why? · Some ways to nurse independently · How do I get started? · Advantages and disadvantages · Advertising in The Christian Science Journal · Legal preparation · Financial preparation · Practical preparation · How to know what to charge · Billing · Accepting a case and reasons for leaving a case · Promoting yourself · What to wear · What to take · Know your resources!
Of course, this topic couldn't be completely covered in one hour, but it was an opportunity to start a discussion together, hear what other Christian Science nurses are doing and give a jump-start in thinking through a new way of serving in the Christian Science nursing ministry.
