|This is a revised copy of yesterday's JobbersWorld. It includes a correction to the dexos1™ JobbersWorld Scoreboard. Specifically, ConocoPhillips has been moved from the "undecided" column to the "Nay" column. This revised copy also includes additional preliminary results from JobbersWorld's ongoing survey on dexos1™. |
|CONOCOPHILLIPS says NO to dexos1™|
Looks like the "Nays" have it among the major oil companies.
ConocoPhillips advised its marketers today it will not offer a licensed dexos1™ PCEO.
Specifically ConocoPhillips advised its marketers:
"As of November 1, ConocoPhillips Lubricants' current lineup of GF-4 passenger car motor oil products will be compliant to the new ILSAC GF-5 formulation. This transition will apply to all of our proprietary brands; i.e., Kendall, 76, Conoco and Phillips 66. The new GF-5 formulations have been shown to have a positive effect on emission control, fuel economy, oxidation control, engine cleanliness and sludge protection. Marketers will be receiving more information regarding these new products and the associated details shortly.
Secondly, ConocoPhillips Lubricants has elected not to pursue a license from General Motors (GM) for the right to use the dexos1™ name."
In addition, ConocoPhillips said, "As you may be aware, beginning with the 2011 model year, GM has adopted a new motor oil specification for use in all cars and light duty trucks they manufacture. The specification has been labeled dexos1, a trademarked and proprietary name, the use of which requires payment of licensing and royalty fees to GM.
Accordingly, ConocoPhillips Lubricants will offer a product that meets, in every respect, the technical specifications for dexos1, but we will not use the dexos1 name in our marketing. For your customers that desire a product meeting the dexos1 product specifications for their GM vehicle, beginning November 1, ConocoPhillips Lubricants will offer Kendall GT-1® 5W-30 Full Synthetic Motor Oil with Liquid Titanium®. This passenger car motor oil has in fact been formulated to more than meet the requirements of dexos1 and the API/ILSAC GF-5 standards, and offers unique performance benefits due to our exclusive Liquid Titanium additive. You will be hearing more on this shortly."
Based on JobbersWorld's tally, this leaves only ExxonMobil and Shell saying they will offer a dexos1™licensed PCEO. Not a surprise considering the position of both companies in GM's factory and service fill business.
