Dear Knitters and Kumihimo-ists!
Happy New Year!
I hope all of you are having a wonderful holiday season and that you are excited about 2013! I love fresh starts and the beginning of the new year always feels like a clean slate.
I have some fun things planned for 2013. In April, a group of us (32 to be exact) will head to Spain for the Annual Knitting and Kumihimo Retreat. Look out Madrid, Barcelona, San Sebastian - here we come! After a short time back, I will be teaching at the CNCH conference at the Resort at Squaw Creek. I am scheduled to teach 3 Kumihimo classes; 2 are already filled. I am really looking forward to it. And a few weeks after that, Makiko Tada arrives for our 4 day Kumihimo Workshop in Truckee (near Lake Tahoe). Without a doubt, Makiko's visit will be a peak experience! I know that we are all very very excited.
To help me with my "productivity", my husband gave me an iPad mini. I love it. I have found many, many ways to use it. Time flies when you're having fun. Please share any "must have" apps!
Here's to a Happy New Year for everyone! Happy Braiding, Karen
P.S. Thank you to all of you that made What a Knit successful in 2012. I couldn't do it without your support, enthusiasm, ideas, orders and incredibly nice emails. Thank you!

New! Kumihimo "Mini Slices" Edge Bead Necklace Kit
Sparkling & Fun for the New Year! Here's a new look at the Edge Bead Necklace. 32 brilliant and colorful mini slices of cane (or furnace) glass make up the "focal section" of the necklace. The mini slices are a mixture of many colors and pair nicely with most of the satin colors. I have used Royal satin in this sample. Whatever color of satin you choose will influence the overall color feeling of the necklace. Black could be striking, brights are fun, you pick. When you place your order, you can let me know which color of satin you want. It's as easy as that!
Click here to see Mini Slices Edge Bead Kit.
Kit includes:
10 yards Satin
32 Beautiful Multi-colored Mini Slices
6mm All in One Magnetic End Cap
Instructions with Photos
Cost: $19.50
Like the Furnace Glass Beads, I receive the mini slices in limited quantities. If you want to try this necklace kit, order soon! |

Furnace Glass Focal Bead Necklace Kits are Back |
I told you I would get more!! I love the days when I receive my shipments of Furnace Glass Beads. The Furnace Glass Beads that I have on my website our made in the USA and, as I have learned, it is quite a process to make them. It was explained to me that rods of colored glass are twisted and pulled by two glass blowers to 30 feet or more in length, then hand cut on a diamond saw and tumbled or fire polished to a high shine. Each bea d is its own masterpiece. Because of the complexity of this work, it takes a bit of lead time to get them. Enjoy them while I have them! Click here to see the Furnace Glass Focal Bead Necklace Kits.
Kit includes:
1 Furnace Glass Focal Bead
1 spool C-Lon Tex 400 4 packages of 6/0 Miyuki or Toho Seed Beads
5mm All-in-One End Cap
Instructions with Photos

Kumihimo "Artist" of the Month
Suzanne Woodhead - Truckee, CA
It was definitely a Kumihimo Christmas for the people in Suzanne's life. She would come shopping with a list of all the things and colors she needed for each person on her list. From Cluster Bead Scissors Keepers, to Glazed Donut Edge Bead Necklaces to Dichroic Glass Pendant Necklaces, she was very busy. And I was lucky because I got to see alot of the things as she made them. Vicarious thrills!
For this necklace Suzanne used 3 colors of satin, 12 strands, a Dichroic Glass Pendant and a 6mm All in One Magnetic End Cap!
Thank you Suzanne!
Email Karen if you would like to share what you have created! It's best if you take a picture on a white background (a piece of paper works quite well)! |
