Dear Knitters and Kumihimo-ists!

Karen

Holiday Greetings!

I hope all of you had a Happy Thanksgiving filled with friends, family, laughter, love and lots of good food. We ate too much at our house!

With Black Friday and Cyber Monday behind us, it seems the official HOLIDAY doors have burst wide open and life will get quite busy with holiday FESTIVITIES and preparations! The Christmas tree lots are filled with trees, lights are going up all over - I love this time of the year.

I've had alot of people tell me they are giving Kumihimo gifts this holiday season and it's been fun packing orders. I love looking at color selections and guessing what will be created from the beautiful mixes of colors, textures and beads. I have such a fun job!

As a little reminder - Kumihimo Kits make great gifts. If you know someone, young or old, that would enjoy learning Kumihimo give them a Kumihimo Starter Kit. I have a "Kids" version as well as a "Grown Up" version. Kumihimo Necklace Kits, whether made up or given as a kit, make great gifts too. Satin cord, disks, bobbins, etc. make great stocking stuffers! Use your imagination and feel free to call or email me if you need help or want suggestions. I am more than happy to help.

Happy Braiding,
Karen

Glazed Donut Edge Bead Necklace Kit
This is my new FAVORITE!
It's a great kit and a quick project. It whips together lickety-split and it looks awesome! The Glazed Donut Edge Bead Necklace has become very popular and I know quite a few people will happily give this as a gift this holiday season. This style of necklace is well suited for a longer length so I've packed the kit with 12 yards of Petite Satin. There is enough cord to make up to a 24" necklace (give or take a little). My preference is around 19".

Kit includes:
1 Ceramic Glazed Donut
12 yards of Petite Satin Cord
10 grams Toho or Miyuki Seed Beads
2 Large Hole Accent Beads
6mm All-in-One End Cap
Instructions with Photos

Cost: $25

Straw with Teal and Picasso Seed Beads #4
Orange with Coffee and Picasso Seed Beads #6
Tortoise with Chocolate and Picasso Seed Beads #2
Green Leopard with Olive and Picasso Seed Beads #1
Seafoam with W. Blue and Picasso Seed Beads #4
Plum with Navy and Dk. Rose Seed Beads #3

Dichroic Glass Pendants with Kumihimo Braids
Need a Quick Holiday Gift?
Look no further. This couldn't be any easier! Simply select a Dichroic Glass Pendant (there are almost 4 dozen to choose from), then select some Petite Satin Cord (33 colors), then warp up your disk and braid away. Last, finish the ends and attach end caps. An 8 strand Petite Satin cord braid is the perfect size because it slides through the pendant bail and pairs perfectly with a 6mm end cap. That's all there is to it. Ta da! Done.

Kumihimo "Artist" of the Month

 Sue Bye - Minnesota

Sue Bye is a super talented weaver, braider and the list goes on.  I met Sue on the Knitting Basket Knitting & Kumihimo Retreat in Oaxaca , Mexico and traveled with her again last February in Guatemala.  Sue is very talented and does alot of teaching in Minnesota. She gave me a Ply Split Braiding lesson on a long international lay over at the airport! If I lived closer to Sue, I could learn alot of new things!

Her necklace is an example of the Reverse Spiral Braid using 16-strand 3/2 perle cotton and a 5mm All in One End Cap. She made the fused glass pendant when she was in Door County, Wisconsin. Just beautiful.
.
Email Karen if you would like to share what you have created! It's best if you take a picture on a white background (a piece of paper works quite well)!
8mm All-in-One Magnetic End Caps

Have you tried these yet? They work really well on larger braids and they pair nicely with the 12 strand ridge spiral made with petite satin. Add these to your supply. They are great to have on hand!
8mm All-in-One Magnetic End Caps

Available in Silver Plated and Gold Plated

Stocked in 4mm, 5mm, 6mm & now 8mm

Cost: $2 each / any size

Candy Cane Kits
The Candy Cane Kit is alot of fun and great for the holidays.

These Candy canes look spectacular hanging on the Christmas tree, they look great as package toppers, they make unique gifts for ornament exchanges, etc. There is enough satin in each kit to make three candy canes. You learn how to braid around a wire core and there are three different spiral variation patterns for you choosing.

Cost of Kit: $14.00
