A major problem for all doctors and patients is the issue of adverse side effects to medication. It's a fact that tens of thousands of patients die each year from adverse medication effects and probably ten times that number suffer from adverse symptoms ranging from inconvenient to disabling and life-threatening.
For a physician prescribing drugs it is difficult to predict which patients will suffer adverse effects and which will tolerate the medications relatively well. What most patients and physicians have to understand is that all synthetic drugs must be detoxified by the body via Phase I and Phase II detoxification reactions. These systems, which exist in all living persons, have a finite capacity which is variable from one person to another depending on factors such as genetics, nutrition, exposure to toxins, chronic stress, organ malfunction, etc.
Importantly, our experience with Andrew Cutler's method for hair test interpretation, based on the format used by Doctors Data Inc., reveals that persons who manifest trace mineral transport derangement (TMTD) on hair testing are significantly more likely to exhibit poor tolerance for heavy metals, chemicals and pharmaceutical drugs. Similarly, TMTD also shows up in persons who have experienced severe adverse effects from IV chelation. This is no coincidence. TMTD occurs as a result of a build up of heavy metals in the body which interfere with the absorption, transport and distribution of essential minerals. Heavy metals impair the conversion of T4 to T3 and cause mitochondrial dysfunction. Over 90% of these people have low body temperatures. Because all enzyme reactions in the body are temperature sensitive, every metabolic pathway is impaired, severely impacting the ability to produce energy and to repair and detoxify the body.
Dr. Jerry Tennant in his excellent book HEALING IS VOLTAGE, points out that the structure of the body is analogous to a complex electronic instrument, with diodes, capacitors, transistors, etc. Without voltage (energy), the cell membrane is not able to function; it is unable to take in nutrients or release toxins or cellular "trash." Using electronic instruments, Tennant has clearly demonstrated that the body is unable to heal itself when the cell membrane voltage is low. Furthermore, that the maintenance of adequate voltage is dependent on multiple factors including nutrition, digestion, thyroid and adrenal function, low toxic exposure, strong immune function, good psychological health, effective glutathione levels, etc. All of these factors must be operational for the body to maintain good health.
People are sick and dying because these critical factors are missing. They are eating dead and toxic foods, lacking adequate sleep and exercise, are exposed to hundreds of toxins in their food, water, air, and use of products at work and in daily activities, suffering from hormonal and neurotransmitter imbalances and frequently overstressed .

When we feel our health is significantly compromised, we may safely assume that our bodies are not being detoxified properly and require appropriate evaluation and action. Hair analysis, properly executed and properly interpreted, can provide a crucial first step in restoring your health because of the amazing amount of information it provides. Interestingly, the data derived from the essential hair elements profile is often of greater value than the toxic elements. Without this critical information, we are truly groping in the dark.
