Maintaining adequate glutathione levels is crucial to maintaining good health. However, most glutathione(GSH) supplements are a waste of money and provide little or no benefit. Find out why your glutathione levels are low and the secret to restoring them.
First, you need to understand why so many people have glutathione depletion. Glutathione is at the very heart of your body's defenses against toxic metals and chemicals. In order to detoxify a single molecule of a heavy metal, your body requires 3 molecules of glutathione. We live in an era in which we are exposed to more than 10,000 times the environmental levels of heavy metals than existed in the environment 500 years ago. We are exposed to heavy metals in our water, air, food, soil, consumer products, paints, home furnishings, tools and computers. We have numerous sources of mercury in our environment including amalgam fillings (50% mercury), fish , vaccines, coal fired power plants, crematoriums, and chlorine plants . In addition, all synthetic chemicals must be detoxified and excreted. This also creates a huge drain on our glutathione reserves leading to glutathione depletion.
Because the body is then unable to excrete the heavy metals and chemicals, they accumulate in the body , interfering with the absorption, transport, and distribution of essential minerals and causing abnormalities of endocrine function -especially affecting the thyroid and adrenals. The toxic metals cause production of high levels of reverse T3, blocking the effects of T3 (your body's most potent thyroid hormone). However, the routine thyroid tests will all appear normal.
Furthermore, these heavy metals and synthetic chemicals are all mitochondrial toxins. Mitochondria are the tiny cellular energy factories which produce energy for essential cellular functions. The metal and chemical toxins prevent the production of energy and instead cause the production of dangerous unstable molecules called free radicals. The result is persistent fatigue often coupled with persistent inflammation.
Depletion of glutathione also leads to chronic immune dysfunction and inability to protect against free radicals leading to chronic inflammation, tissue damage, and premature aging.
Because of immune dysfunction, the body is unable to rid itself of pathogenic microbes, and we see the development of chronic yeast, fungal, viral, mycobacterial and other infections such as Lyme disease.
It would be wonderful if we could just take glutathione (GSH) pills, raise our levels and restore our health and energy. Unfortunately, glutathione is poorly absorbed from the G-I tract and most of an oral dose of glutathione is simply destroyed. Even IV glutathione is only partially effective and fails to provide lasting improvement. One reason is that GSH can be transported from inside the cell, where it is normally made , to the extracellular space. However, there is no transport mechanism to transport GSH from the extracellular space to the interior of the cell.
Furthermore, if the production of glutathione in your cells is being blocked by heavy metals, you will not succeed in maintaining consistent healthy levels of GSH until you find a way to remove these intracellular heavy metals.
What to do?First, test yourself to see if you have high levels of toxic metals. This is easily done by ordering a hair analysis . This safe, effective and inexpensive test will reveal the number of heavy metals and severity of the toxicity as well as whether you have trace mineral derangement, a reflection of glutathione depletion and impaired excretion.
