Graduate Students' Association Honors Excellence
May 1, 2013
With 50 esteemed individuals nominated and over 90 people in attendance, the Graduate Students' Association (GSA) held its annual Supervisory Excellence (SEA) and Teaching Excellence Awards (TEA) the morning of May 1, at the MacEwan Conference Centre.
The TEAs and SEAs allow graduate students to nominate exceptional teaching and supervisory staff within the University of Calgary.
"The event was a great success and very well attended. It was wonderful to award these well-deserved nominees in front of their peers, and let them know they are thoroughly appreciated by the GSA," says Liam Cummings, vice-president (academic).
This year's award winners (in no particular order):
- Stefania Forlini (Teaching Excellence Award)
- Nathalie Jette (Supervisory Excellence Award)
- Judi Powell (Exemplary Administrative Support - Support Staff)
- Susanne Carroll (Exemplary Administrative Support - Administration)
Sarah Akierman, president (GSA) says, "There was a large amount of impressive applicants this year that made the decisions quite difficult. We are very honoured to have so many applicants who are all deserving."
Respected guests included Lisa Young, dean and vice-provost (graduate studies) and Lynn Taylor, vice-provost (teaching and learning) as well as performances by the B. Johnny Summers Trio.
