Letter of Expectation-Graduate Student Feedback
To: Honourable Thomas Lukaszuk MLA
Dear Deputy Premier,
In light of the recent provincial budget and the re-engineering of Alberta's postsecondary
system as lead by your ministry, the Alberta Graduate Council (AGC)
recognizes the important role that student, institution and government partnership plays in
advancing the sector. Additionally, we recognize the important perspective that learners
in the system bring to these conversations, and thus we thank-you for the conversation
and opportunities to provide input on the letters of expectation to institutions.
In consultation with our 20,000 graduate student members, we offer the following
feedback on the letters of expectation... Click here for more...

That alumnus was Silicon Valley leader Gary Kovacs. His new job was a pretty big deal: CEO of Mozilla Corporation, developers of the Firefox web browser. CALL for RESEARCH CHALLENGES
Our Annual CPSC Industry event is scheduled for Thursday, May 9th from 8 am to 1 pm (including light breakfast and lunch) this year. This is a CALL for RESEARCH CHALLENGES. A "research challenge" is a broad range of questions all having in common that: -They are originated from (one of ) your real-world business projects -Content-wise, they somehow have a link to one of the CPSC competence areas listed here... -You believe that some portion of research would allow you to better address the original problem. We hope this initiative will foster collaboration between industry and academia. We think it is a win-win situation: Addressing research challenges (we might not be able to solve all of themJ) potentially results in improvement of your business project. Simultaneously, it might raise a new question a researcher has not yet though about and is interested in working on. For each challenge you have in mind, please fill out the attached form and submit toruhe@ucalgary.ca. We will have a dedicated session during our Industry Day event where we will discuss the results and offer ideas on how to proceed with the challenges. One idea would be to apply for an NSERC ENGAGE grant (with the key idea of fostering collaboration between industry and academia). See here... Please submit your challenges until May 2nd. Please also indicate if there is any confidentiality concern talking about your challenge. Challenges can also be formulated on-site during Industry Day. We are looking forward to receiving your research challenges.

Student learning will be transformed thanks to a $40-million gift from the Taylor family to establish a home for the Taylor Institute for Teaching and Learning.
Through this new institute, the University of Calgary will take the lead in educational innovation by researching the most effective methods for engaging students, by supporting faculty to be the best teachers they can be and by providing some of the most innovative learning spaces available anywhere in North America, says President Elizabeth Cannon.
