Announcing ELAM's New
Associate Director

We are pleased to share the official announcement of the appointment of Nancy Spector, MD (ELUM 2010), as Drexel College of Medicine Associate Dean for Faculty Development and ELAM's new associate director. A professor of pediatrics, Dr. Spector has served as associate chair for education and faculty development for the Department of Pediatrics at Drexel University College of Medicine since 2007 and has been the program director for the Pediatric Residency program at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children since 2012. You can read the official announcement here.

Since September, Nancy has been observing in the ELAM classroom and participating in staff meetings while also serving as an advisor for the Saraswati '16 Learning Community. This role as associate director is a first step towards her eventually assuming the role as ELAM's next program director. She and Diane are having a great time planning for future Fellowship and alumnae programs.  Nancy will facilitate a Leading Forward session at the conclusion of the ELUM program on January 17 in North Carolina.  We look forward to hearing your ideas about strengthening this community!

"As I look back on my time as Chief Scientific Officer at the AAMC, I remember most fondly the privilege I've had to work with so many dedicated institutional leaders, faculty, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, medical students, and residents. They are the bedrock of our medical research enterprise," she writes. Dr. Bonham will be leaving the AAMC this month to pursue interests in health care disparities and health equity.

When it comes to landing a good job, many people focus on the role. Although finding the right title, position and salary is important, there's another consideration that matters just as much: culture. The culture of a workplace - an organization's values, norms and practices - has a huge impact on our happiness and success.
