Valerie A. Arkoosh, M.D., M.P.H. (ELAM '00), was elected to a 4-year term on the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners in Montgomery County, PA. She was appointed to the Commission on January 28th, 2015, filling a vacancy, and has been serving as the Vice-Chair of the Commission since then.
 
 
Anees Chagpar, M.D., M.Sc., M.A., M.P.H. (ELAM '10) was quoted in the December 14, 2015 article in HealthCanal.com, Removing more breast tissue during surgery reduces costs.
 
Rena N. D'Souza, D.D.S., M.S., Ph.D. (ELAM '10) has been elected as the next vice president of the International Association for Dental Research.

Call for Nominees: AMA Advisory Committee on LGBT Issues
The AMA Board of Trustees is seeking diverse candidates for following expiring positions on its Advisory Committee on LGBT Issues:
 
1. At-large position
2. At-large position
3.  Medical Student Section (MSS) representative (incumbent is eligible for re-appointment)
4.  GLMA representative (incumbent is not eligible for reappointment)
 
The Advisory Committee on LGBT Issues meets twice a year and hosts monthly teleconferences in between face-to-face meetings. The committee's role is to advise the AMA Board of Trustees on LGBT issues and host the LGBT & Allies Caucus and Reception along with other LGBT educational sessions. Nominees should have expertise and interest in LGBT issues and should have held previous leadership or committee positions. Newly-appointed committee members are expected to attend the next committee meeting in Chicago, June 9-11, 2016. The GLMA and MSS representative positions will be administered through those respective organizations. Interested medical students should contact the MSS directly before January 15, 2016 and GLMA candidates should contact GLMA directly before February 1st.

And finally, you see them everywhere - zombies stumbling about, tripping over curbs, and bumping into you on the sidewalk. They have a name: distracted walkers. A new study by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons took some strides toward understanding the wandering hazard. Generally, research shows most people think it's a serious problem, but others are to blame, not themselves. Not surprisingly, there's a generational component, with millennials not only more likely to join the zombie walking ranks but also characterizing it as "embarrassing-in a funny way."
