ELAM News to Know
Back from San Antonio
The ELAM staff is back in the office after an intense, exciting, and fulfilling winter ELAM session and ELUM Professional Development program in San Antonio. We will have numerous recaps and lessons learned from the ELUM program to share with you over the next few months, but we wanted to start off with a general overview and impressions from our newest staff member, ELAM's Director of Operations and Management, Wendy Johnson:
The Alumnae Professional Development Program in San Antonio was a learning-, encouragement-, reunion-, and celebration-rich event. The opening session's call of diversity highlighted the range of ELUMs attending the program, from ELUMs from the very first class through the 2013-14 Fellows. As the newest member of the ICELA team, it was a great opportunity to meet the women who are leading the way for future women leaders in academic medicine and sciences.
Four key sessions and nearly a dozen break-out specialty sessions gave us all an in depth look at how we can improve our communication in our professional lives. The sessions were well attended and many were also able to take advantage of the sunny days on the River Walk or some pampering at the Mokara Spa, in addition to reuniting with old friends and making new ones.
The weekend was capped off by the Founder's Toast to Rosalyn Richman. Roz has retired from Drexel but not from ELAM, and we had the opportunity to celebrate her ongoing contribution to the ELAM community. It was great to hear the stories and see the journey the ELAM program and the alumnae have taken to make a difference in our world.
Thank you to the Alumnae Advisory Group for an outstanding job of guiding the development of this great weekend.
If you missed out, don't let that happen again! We will see you in Durham, NC in 2015!
