ELAM News to Know

See you in San Antonio!

The 2014 ELUM Professional Development program begins tonight in San Antonio - safe travels to everyone coming in, and we look forward to a fantastic couple of days!

Thank you...

Page Morahan and the ELAM research team thanks you for your participation in research about women's leadership and career development. We believe you will be interested in this recent paper which stems from Marsha McLean's Ed.D. research at The George Washington University.

Academic Medicine, November 2013 - Volume 88 - Issue 11:

Geographic Mobility Advances Careers: Study of the Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (ELAM) Program for Women

McLean, Marsha R.; Morahan, Page S.; Dannels, Sharon A.; McDade, Sharon A.

This research brings up to date, and extends to the academic medicine community, the finding that women who move geographically are more likely to advance in administrative leadership positions. The discussion focuses on the strategic implications of these results - for both women who wish to advance in leadership, and for institutions who wish to move towards gender equity in leadership. Please enjoy, and we welcome your comments.

This was the first use of the ELAM database for such research, and it could not be done without your willingness to help us keep the information accurate and up to date!

There's still time to encourage a colleague!

ELAM is now accepting applications for its 2014-2015 class through our online application process. We ask that you please share this information with colleagues you think would be a good candidate for ELAM, and also through any relevant listservs or groups of which you are a part. More information on the application process is available in our brochure, and also on our website. Applications are due by January 16, 2014, but we are encouraging applicants to get their applications started ASAP!

Applications are also now open for the Executive Leadership in Academic Technology and Engineering program (ELATE at Drexel) - a program modeled after ELAM but tailored to women in the STEM fields. We encourage you to distribute information about this program to your colleagues in these fields. More information about the program is available in our brochure and on the program website. Applications for ELATE are due January 16, 2014, but we are encouraging applicants to get their applications started ASAP. Please contact us with any questions!
