Hawaii Schools Digital Media Grant: August 31
The Hawaii Educational Networking Consortium (HENC), of which HAIS is a member, has almost $80,000 to distribute this year to schools in awards ranging from $500 to $3,000 per school.  The funds can be used to purchase video production equipment and supplies, as well as for teacher professional development in digital media production.  Please view the flyer for more information. The flyer also includes a link to a newly created resource for helping teachers learn how to use digital video in the classroom to support all types of learning - and how to do it with very little money. The deadline for applying is August 31, 2015. 
SOTF Conference Early Bird Rate Ends on June 30  
Early Bird registration for the 7th Annual Schools of the Future Conference convening November 3 & 4, at the Hawaii Convention Center, will end on June 30.  Save $100 off the regular two-day rate by registering before then.  A Group Rate is also available for schools registering 10 or more individuals. SOEST Open House: October 23 & 24

The University of Hawaii School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology (SOEST) Open House will be held on Friday, October 23 from 8:30 am - 2 pm and on Saturday, October 24 from 10 am - 2 pm. Learn about volcanoes, tsunamis, El Niņo, planetary exploration, hurricanes, coastal erosion, marine ecosystems, and more. There will be hands-on activities and demonstrations for students of all ages to enjoy. Groups of 10 or more are required to complete the Group Registration Form. Reach the Runway Internship Opportunities

A program of the aio Foundation and presented in partnership with Lt. Gov. Shan Tsutsui's REACH Out Hawaii Initiative, Reach the Runway is designed to inspire and support Oahu middle school students interested in journalism, photography, fashion design, magazine design, hair and makeup, styling or modeling. Up to three students from each category will have the opportunity to work with mentors  over a three-month period, honing their crafts and creating at least one piece of work to display at Honolulu Fashion Week. The application deadline is June 30.

St. Andrew's Schools Summer Institutes: June & July
  • Introduction to Blended Learning is designed for the teacher who has some experience engaging students online, but is interested in learning more about the concept, pedagogy, and good practice of successful blended courses. (June 15-July 10 online and in-person on July 22 and 23).
  • The Mindful Classroom: Cultivating Peace through Practicing Awareness (July 23). Learn the science behind mindfulness, cultivate your own personal practice, learn practical activities to implement in classroom or home and connect with like-minded peers. This seminar is free.
  • The Mindful Community: Cultivating Peace Through Practicing Awareness (July 24).
    Community members are invited to take part in the opportunity to learn and develop their own mindfulness practice, and learn ways in which to relay their knowledge to others through various practical techniques. This seminar is free.
  • Girls Circle Facilitator Training (July 30 & 31). Girls Circle is a nationally recognized program for girls 9-18 years that is designed to increase positive connection, personal and collective strengths, and competence in girls. This training will provide a gender-specific way to help girls hold on to their voices, build healthy relationships with peers, and navigate the challenges of adolescence, as well as develop strengths-based facilitation skills to create trust, bonding and resiliency.

Island Pacific Academy Professional Development: July 13 & 14

Island Pacific Academy will be hosting a 2 day workshop for educators. The workshop includes 4 half-day courses covering Adobe Portfolio, MIC - Microsoft in the Classroom, Google Apps for Education and Design Thinking Process. The cost is $195. Educator Workshop on Investing in the Stock Market: August 1
Learn from a senior executive from Merrill Lynch (who was also rated as and one of Barron's 1,200 top advisers in the country) as he teaches participants about basic and intermediate investing concepts and strategies, mutual funds, managing risk, general economic concepts, and personal finance resources to improve your future. Participants will also be invited to join the 2015 Fall Hawaii Stock Market Simulation, an interactive education tool for students in grades 3-12. This workshop will take place on Saturday, August 1 from 8:00 am - 12:30 pm. Hawaii Science Bowl: October 1
Registration for the January 30, 2016 Hawaii Science Bowl will begin on October 1 at 12pm East Coast time, and the application deadline is November 20, 2015. Acceptance will be on a first come, first served basis.
