SOTF Early Bird Registration Now Open: June 30
Early Bird Registration is now open for the Seventh Annual Schools of the Future Conference convening November 3 - 4, 2015 at the Hawaii Convention Center. Join teachers and administrators from Hawaii's public, private, charter and parochial schools as they focus on how to best transform our existing schools and create new learning environments for the 21st Century.
This collaborative event is presented by the Hawaii Association of Independent Schools, the Hawaii State Department of Education and the Hawaii Community Foundation in partnership with Hawaii Society for Technology in Education and the Pillars of Peace Fund of the Hawaii Community Foundation, to highlight the best practices that are taking place in our learning environments today and for the future. Punahou Production of the Pajama Game: April 9-10 & 17-18
The public is invited to attend performances of "The Pajama Game" on Thursday and Friday, April 9 - 10, and Friday and Saturday, April 17 - 18, 2015, at 7:30 pm, in Dillingham Hall on Punahou School's campus. Tickets are $8 for students and seniors (65 and older), with ID; $15 for adults. Purchase tickets at the Sullivan Administration Building Box Office on April 7 - 8 and 15 - 16 from 3 - 5 pm and one hour before each performance. Reserved seating. Click here to view the flier.

Manoa Experience: University Preview Day: April 11
The University of Hawaii Manoa will be hosting a Preview Day on Saturday, April 11, 2015 from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm. This free event is open to prospective students and their families. Hawaii Meth Project: April 30
Do you want to be a leader in creating a meth-free Hawaii? Hawaii high school students entering grades 9-12, in the fall of 2015, are eligible to participate. Applicants must be able to attend a mandatory training on June 7-10, on Oahu. The deadline to apply is April 30. Interviews will be conducted in May and final selections will be made by May 31. Honolulu Theatre for Youth: 61st Season
HTY's 2015-16 season is themed "An Ocean of Adventure." The production line-up will include 6 locally-authored premieres-all original shows-to mark their 61st season. Under the guidance of Artistic Director Eric Johnson, the season will begin in August with Anime Alice and Her Adventures in Wonderland, a modern mash-up of the Lewis Carroll classic with a Japanese flair in honor of the story's 150th anniversary. CAPE Outlook: April Issue
The Council for American Private Education's (CAPE) newsletter, Outlook, is available for download. Highlights include the Scholarship Tax Credit Bill that was introduced in Congress, and an article about Frederick Hess -director of education policy studies at the American Enterprise Institute- which focuses on the need for private schools to remain innovative.

Next Wa'a Talks: April 7
The next Wa'a Talks will be held on April 7 from 3:30 - 6:45 pm, at Punahou School. This event is free and open to public, charter, and independent school teachers and leaders interested in sharing mana'o or learning more about how to integrate the Worldwide Voyage and mālama honua into school communities. HTC Presents Mr. Steve from PBS KIDS: April 28
Mr. Steve, from PBS KIDS, will be performing at the Hawaii Theater Center on Tuesday, April 28, sharing his original music and lyrics, which incorporate kid-friendly lessons in science, math, environmental issues and character values. The 9am performance is suitable for Pre-K -2nd Grade and the 11am performance is appropriate for Grades 3-5. Tickets are $5 and for every 20 kids, a teacher gets in free. TECC Teacher Job Fair: May 2
The Hawaii Teacher Education Coordinating Committee Teacher Job Fair will be held on Saturday, May 2 from 9:30 am - 1:30 pm at the Waipahu High School Gymnasium. The job fair provides school administrators with the opportunity to meet with and/or interview teacher candidates who are seeking employment for the 2015-2016 academic year. Kupu Hou Academy: June 1-4
Mid-Pacific will host the 5th annual Kupu Hou Academy from June 1-4. The academy is designed to help teachers grow their deeper learning practices, specifically project-based learning. Academy leader Dr. Mark Hines and other veteran project designers from Mid-Pacific, SEEQS, Waialae Elementary PCS, and Malama Honua PCS will give teachers practical, hands-on strategies for building impactful student projects and assessments. Participants will return for follow-up sessions in October 2015 and March 2016. There will also be a drop-in day for administrators on June 3, which will include a roundtable discussion and opportunities to observe project development. Professional Programs at Punahou: June & July
Punahou School will be offering several professional development opportunities this summer. All of the programs involve teacher-to-teacher learning, where educators work with colleagues and strategic partners, including researchers and experts, to advance their own professional practice and benefit their students and their institutions. GENCYBER Summer Camp: July 13-17
The National Security Agency is partnering with the University of Hawaii and the Hawaii Department of Education to educate high school students on career pathways in cyber security through a five-day GENCYBER summer camp. Simultaneously, there will be a separate camp for teachers to engage with other educators. The camps will be held on July 13-17 from 8 am - 4 pm, at the Pacific Center for Advanced Technology Training at the Honolulu Community College. There is no cost for students and teachers to participate and schools are limited to 3 students. Click here to view the program memo.
