A message from the Bishop

A Prayer for Boston

Bishop head 2012 With news from Boston, please pray for all those immediately impacted -- especially those killed and their families, and those injured.  I also ask that everyone offer a prayer for protection in this time of confusion and anxiety:

Assist us mercifully, O Lord, in these our supplications and prayers, and dispose the way of your servants towards the attainment of everlasting salvation; that, among all the changes and chances of this mortal life, they may ever be defended by your gracious and ready help; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

The Rt. Rev. Robert L. Fitzpatrick,  Bishop
The Episcopal Diocese of Hawai'i and

The Episcopal Church in Micronesia

St. Andrew's Priory Summer Programs
Priory girls
St. Andrew's Priory Summer Program extends an opportunity and is welcome to students who wish to experience fun and learning through a combination of academics, athletics, enrichment, and arts courses.

The Priory Summer Program is open for enrollment to boys and girls entering Kindergarten through the 12th grade. Our summer program begins with six weeks of morning academics and afternoon social activities open to all English proficient students.  It ends with the Summer Adventure Program, a day camp/activities social program (non-academic) open to all Kindergarten through 8th grade boys and girls.

English proficiency is not required for the Summer Adventure Program.  These programs allow students a continuous learning experience in a challenging yet caring environment.  The foundation of our Summer Program is our own core of Priory faculty augmented with quality instructors from across the state. For more information, please see our summer program catalog and registration forms on our website HERE or call 532-2464.

Our Young People are the Future...
A welcome from Sarah Klitzke, Diocesan Youth Director

Aloha and many blessings to you!
Sarah KlitzkeAs the new Youth Director of the Episcopal Diocese of Hawai'i, I would like to invite and encourage the youth of this Diocese to an exciting time in our church life. We are truly in a time of change and vibrancy in the Episcopal Church. With more youth becoming involved in making a difference in the world around them every single day, the time is right for youth to foster new ideas for growth and worship in the church. I look forward to a challenging and dynamic future, full of fresh ideas and innovation in spirituality, while still incorporating and embracing tradition and sacred roots of the Episcopal Church.  (READ MORE)

Property Survey Coming Out this Week
The property survey (mentioned in the March 18 E-News) will be released later this week with a link sent to all wardens and clergy. Only one survey per church is needed, so please determine who at your church will fill it out. The survey will provide a broad overview of each property that will be helpful to understand what the collective needs and uses of our properties are around the diocese, and we look forward to receiving everyone's responses.

The committee has divided up the congregations in the diocese and you should be hearing from a committee member sometime this week. In general, the churches have been divided up as follows:

The Big Island of Hawai'i - Cecilia Fordham
Maui - Bill Rees
Kaua'i - Keane Akao
Windward O'ahu - John Hawkins
West O'ahu - Dot Shigemura

Honolulu churches are being divided amongst all the committee members. Please feel free to contact any of us with questions you may have, through the linked names above.

What's Happening in The Episcopal Church?

Announcements from around The Episcopal Church...

Presiding Bishop Offers Prayer for Boston
Episcopal Church Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori calls for prayer following the explosions in Boston, MA, and offers the following prayer:

Gracious God, you walk with us through the valley of the shadow of death.  We pray that the suffering and terrorized be surrounded by the incarnate presence of the crucified and risen one.  May every human being be reminded of the precious gift of life you entered to share with us.  May our hearts be pierced with compassion for those who suffer, and for those who have inflicted this violence, for your love is the only healing balm we know. May the dead be received into your enfolding arms, and may your friends show the grieving they are not alone as they walk this vale of tears.  All this we pray in the name of the one who walked the road to Calvary.

WEBCAST PARTICIPATION!
TENS 2013

In the last issue of the E-News, we announced that registration for the TENS Conferece in Utah was now open, but we have since learned that for the first time ever, portions of the conference will also be broadcast live via the web!

This is great news, especially for congregations here in Hawai'i. To view the plenaries and workshops that will be available through the webcast, click HERE. All times shown are MST (Mountain Standard Time). The workshops will be in real-time and are not available for re-broadcast. The cost for the webcast package is $75.

The conference will be taking place July 12 & 13, at the Episcopal Commons of Utah, in Salt Lake City, and is designed to offer congregational and diocesan stewardship teams theological, scriptural and practical aspects of stewardship formation and annual giving.  Keynote speakers, Sister Joan Chittister and Bishop Bruce Caldwell from the Episcopal Diocese of Wyoming, will explore: What does it mean to flourish in our faith? How do we find our ground of faith? Is it rooted in a God of abundance, or do we let our faith wither in a culture of scarcity?

To learn more about the conference and to register, visit the TENS website HERE
