PBHS students to sing with All-State Choir

Two Poplar Bluff High School Choir members were selected to perform with the All-State Choir, one as a lead soprano and the other student as an alternate tenor, at the Missouri Music Educators conference January in Tan-Tar-A.

During an audition on Saturday, Nov. 9, at Cape Central High School, Senior Mara McClintock was chosen by a panel of judges to be one of four sopranos to represent the Southeast District at states. Nicholas Ducote, a junior, was chosen as a backup, which means he will rehearse with the rest of the members from the district and be prepared to fill in if a tenor cannot attend.

Ducote and McClintock were eligible to try out for the All-State Choir upon previously being named members of the All-District Choir.

Statewide honor for school public relations

R-I Communications/Marketing Coordinator Tim Krakowiak was presented the Award of Merit in the writing category during the Missouri School Public Relations Association fall conference on Thursday, Nov. 7, in Branson.

The MOSPRA Communication Award was for the Feb. 18 article entitled "CNN to recognize Poplar Bluff Schools' anti-bullying efforts," about the district being featured in Anderson Cooper's documentary "The Bully Effect" per recommendation of Stand for the Silent Founder Kirk Smalley himself. The statewide contest was judged by public relations professionals from neighboring National School Public Relations Association chapters.

Krakowiak, who has begun his second school year with R-I, credits school board member Kent Eyler for providing him with the news tip.
