Fall Festival
Students got to show off their Halloween costumes during the Fall Festival on Thursday, Oct. 24, at the Poplar Bluff Kindergarten Center.
The annual event, which serves as a fundraiser to supply students with yearbooks, featured a hayride, bounce house, games, face painting, portraits, the smoke house courtesy of the Poplar Bluff Fire Department, food, a silent auction and candy prizes.

On Tuesday, Oct. 22, several students from the Graduation Center were awarded bronze and silver ACT National Career Readiness Certificates for scoring high on the associated test.
There are 88 employers in Butler County that recognize the test as a measure of foundational workplace skills. The county is currently at 68 percent toward reaching its goal, set by the Greater Poplar Bluff Area Chamber of Commerce, of becoming Southeast Missouri's first to be classified as a Certified Work Ready Community through the economic development program.

College Fair
On Tuesday, Oct. 22, at E.T. Peters Gym, Poplar Bluff High School juniors and seniors participated in the annual College Fair-organized by the Missouri Association for College Admission Counseling-featuring dozens of colleges, universities, trade schools as well as military representatives passing along post-graduation information to students.

TCC pumpkin carving contest

Each year, the TCC students compete to produce the most creative pumpkin to embody their desired trade.
This year's first place winning pumpkin, which can be viewed here, was the morning health occupations class. Vote for your favorite pumpkin by clicking 'like' on the album photo.

O'Neal third graders participated in Pumpkinpalooza, an annual pumpkin decorating contest at the elementary school that revolves around a storybook character and does not involve carving.
Winners, determined on Monday, Oct. 21, by the school community, were based on the most money the pumpkin generated for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The top three students in each category also received a monetary award, courtesy of event sponsor First Midwest Bank.

Drop everything and read
Oak Grove Elementary School recently celebrated DEAR Day during which students dropped everything and read for an hour and a half.

Red Ribbon Week
The district will celebrate Red Ribbon Week from Tuesday, Oct. 29-Friday, Nov. 1, with this year's theme being: "We are happy-happy-happy to be drug free."
Purple Bins at Walmart
From Wednesday, Oct. 30-Monday, Nov. 11, customers at Walmart on South Westwood Boulevard will have the opportunity to donate care items at purple in-store bins to support students at Poplar Bluff Schools as part of the Champions for Kids SIMPLE Giving program. The donations-which can be in the form of soap, tissues, shampoo, etc.-will be distributed to children and classrooms throughout the district.
Halloween Parade
A Halloween Parade will take place at O'Neal Elementary, beginning at 2:50 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31.
Sho-Me Band Gun Raffle
Tickets to participate in the second annual Sho-Me Marching Band gun raffle fundraiser are available through Thursday, Oct. 31, and can be purchased for $5 from any band member or booster. The gun is a Savage Arms Hunter XP .243 caliber bolt-action rifle with a Bushnell scope. Godwin's 303 Package & Sporting Goods is sponsoring the drawing, which will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, at the store's Hwy 53 location. (Must be 18 years old to claim prize).

Fall Blood Drive
StuCo will host its Fall Blood Drive for the public from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, at E.T. Peters Gym in the high school. Donors must bring a photo ID.
Playoff Tailgate Party
Poplar Bluff Varsity Mules Football will for the first time host a district playoff game at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, versus Seckman. The Poplar Bluff Mules Booster Club will hold a tailgate party prior, beginning at 5 in the Greater Poplar Bluff Area Chamber of Commerce parking lot. Go Mules!
Veterans Day Assembly
Veterans of all branches of the military, WWII vets going on the Honor Tour and other members of the community are invited to attend the annual Veterans Day Assembly beginning at 9 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11, at the 5th & 6th Grade Center. The JROTC will present the colors, there will be a major musical performance, plus a couple very special guest speakers. Please do not miss this!
Community Thanksgiving
The fourth annual free Thanksgiving meal for the community, hosted by Chartwells School Dining Services, will take place from 5-7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 18, in the PBHS Student Center. The menu includes turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, sweet potato casserole, green beans, a homemade dinner roll and dessert. To go orders will be available. Gobble gobble!

On Tuesday, Oct. 22, KFVS12 recognized two of our elementary teachers for running in the Chicago Marathon to raise awareness for autism.
The DAR published a photo from our FBLA and DECA students at PBHS attending Cardinals Career Day in St. Louis.
On Wednesday, Oct. 23, KFVS12 ran some photos on its website from National Boss Day at Oak Grove Elementary.
The DAR ran a photo display from the recent PBHS Mini-Mules Cheerleader Camp.
On Thursday, Oct. 24, KFVS12 recognized our September Athletes of the Month, as determined by the Mules Booster Club.
The DAR ran photos from the pumpkin carving contest at the TCC.
On Friday, Oct. 25, KFVS12 featured PBHS art teacher Debbie Dunnegan sharing a very special recipe.
On Sunday, Oct. 27, the DAR featured Maximus the Mule in its 'Picture This' segment.
