10th Annual Career Fair

More than 300 tenth graders from Poplar Bluff Senior High joined four area schools and participated in the 10th annual Career Fair-organized by AmeriCorps-on Thursday, Oct. 10, at Three Rivers College. Each student filled out a survey prior selecting their top career choices, and then attended three different workshops hosted by business professionals in the respective fields.

Students rewarded for good habits

Lake Road Principal Erica Weadon provided an update to the Rotary Club about the positive impact the Good Habits Store is having at the elementary school on Wednesday, Oct. 9, before sending students on their monthly shopping spree.

An incentive program through which students earn achievement points that can be spent on toys at a makeshift store set up in the gymnasium, the Good Habits Store was instituted by the civic organization during the 2012/13 school year to complement the new theme: Lake Road ROCKS (respectful, outstanding, cooperative, kind and safe).

The Boys and Girls Club also added a Power Hour after school tutoring site at Lake Road last school year. Over the summer, the elementary school received statewide recognition for successful adoption and implementation of School-wide Positive Behavior Support, an intervention system Lake Road educators began training for in 2011/12, a year after Weadon took the helm
