Are You in the Right Job?

Love what you do and do what you love otherwise you are wasting time.
Billy Joel
 Musician and Songwriter

Tony worked for the automotive industry as an accountant.  As a young man, he was unsure of the career path he should pursue  He always admired how easily his father got a job in accounting and it seemed to provide a decent living with opportunity for advancement.  It was this admiration of his father's career that convinced Tony to pursue accounting.

Tony received his degree and landed a great paying job with a local manufacturer of automotive parts.  He soon realized that he felt isolated in his position and so he created teams to make decisions he could make on his own.  He liked the interaction of a team but Tony's boss saw this interaction a waste of company time and resources.  Tony soon left the company to pursue a job in teaching.
 HBDI Whole Brain Model
Many of us have chosen careers based on a family member that has found success in that same career.  In Tony's case he did not understand his predominant way of thinking (C Quadrant) and so he chose a career that required an opposing way of thinking (A Quadrant) to be like his father.   If you are able to align your strength or dominant way of thinking to a career that needs that way of thinking, you will find great success.  For many of us, we gravitated towards this match but for others like Tony we had to learn it the hard way.

Summary:  Choose a career that best matches your dominant way(s) of thinking....It is never too late!
