How Do I Work with a Stick-in-the-Mud?
Happiness is making a schedule and keeping to it!
~The Rabbit from Winnie the Pooh

You have a great idea that could improve the way your family, department or company operates.  With enthusiasm you share your idea only to hear "We tried that" or "Just stick to the schedule", or "Quit rocking the boat". Why are so many people resistant to change?

In this edition we will explore the world of the cautious, safekeeping thinker and communicator. Ned Herrmann calls this way of thinking the "B Quadrant".  These folks prefer to be in control of projects and making lists is their favorite way to keep safe.  Detailed planning and organizing will make sure that nothing falls through the cracks, and therefore, no surprises occur.  The best way to work with a B Quadrant thinker is to be practical, answer all the detail questions of who-what-where and how.  Stay on track, provide proper documentation and unfold your ideas in a step-by-step format.  While this type of thinker may be more resistant to change than most thinkers, if you allow them to process the worst outcomes of the upcoming change before you have them process the best outcomes of the change, they will embrace the change sooner.

Next week we will look at the type of communicator who often tells stories.....and many of them have no point!
