"M" is for Mystery is one of the largest and most complete mystery, crime and thriller bookstores in the United States.  We first opened our doors in late 1996 on East Third Avenue, in the heart of San Mateo, just 15 minutes South of San Francisco International Airport.
 
We offer the largest selection of new mystery, crime and detective fiction of any bookstore in the  SF Bay Area. We host an active schedule of author readings and signings in our store and peninsula libraries, averaging 150-200 such events per year. And we also obtain a large number (perhaps 200 titles) of author signed first edition books directly from the authors who do not travel to our area.   We carry a very extensive selection of collectible and used books, and a growing selection of general and literary fiction and nonfiction titles as well.  And finally we carry an extensive selection of hardcover (many signed by the author) and paperback books published in the United Kingdom, which are not carried by any other bookstore in the Bay Area.

"M" is for Mystery is an independent bookstore, and is a member of the American Booksellers Association, Northern California Independent Booksellers Association, Indie Bound, the Mystery Writers of America and Sisters in Crime.
