IS THE GLASS HALF FULL OR HALF EMPTY? An Age-Old Conundrum
D.E. PAULK |
|
I could say "the glass is half full" and then say of the same glass that it is also "half empty" - and each of these statements would be strangely true, correct, accurate. It is true. The same glass that is half full is also half empty. Both of these statements are "right." Whether we see the glass as half full or half empty does not reveal accuracy, correctness or rightness about the water in the glass. How we view the glass only brings to light our personal perspective and level of consciousness.
The Bible is a holy book (or a collection of 66 holy books) containing contrasting (even contradicting) truths. And, it is designed that way. The contradictions are there intentionally to encourage growth and a greater depth of understanding. They are meant to catapult us into higher revelations. The Bible is a progression of man's process of wrestling with the unending truth of an eternal God. The Bible is a beautiful story of humanity's struggle and surrender to becoming divine.
Inevitably, when biblical/theological arguments ensue, people become polarized to one position or the other, allowing very little room for open-minded discussion, thus effectively preventing any possibility of learning anything from someone who may have a perspective other than their own. The Word of God cannot be contained in any one book. All holy books exist to guide us to the Spirit of God - not to be worshipped. The Bible is not God. It was written by men, to men, and is largely about man's search for God. Perhaps the writers were divinely inspired men, but still...men. The Bible contains divinity, but it also contains humanity.
From the same Christian canon we can prove and then disprove the same theological position. Because this is possible, we must accept that it is dangerous to make the goal of one's spiritual study solely about biblical accuracy. We must understand that the truly spiritual journey is more specifically about revealing to ourselves our personal perspective and level of consciousness.

Quote of the Week

"A great many things have been pronounced untrue and absurd, and even impossible, by the highest authorities in the age in which they lived, which have afterwards, within a very short period, been found to be both possible and true." - Catharine Crowe |

The Holy Bible of Inclusion
by D.E. Paulk
If you are like me you have struggled to accept the modern Christian church's portrayal (or betrayal) of God, depiction of the devil and description of hell. Many god-fearing people and good-hearted preachers alike have long harbored unspoken thoughts of a more loving, merciful and masterful Creator. However, just about as many who subscribe to this grander vision and version of God also admittedly and even ashamedly lack the ability to reference the Bible and specific passages of scripture in order to publicly validate these privately held higher concepts of God.
If you are looking for chapter and verse that will both quickly and completely rescue a big God from the smallness of fundamentalism,THE HOLY BIBLE OF INCLUSION is precisely the tool you need!
THE HOLY BIBLE OF INCLUSION will scripturally, extensively and even exhaustively confront theological myths, misrepresentations and mistranslations of the Bible and its Origins - Universal Salvation - the devil - the Purpose of hell and the Fire of God - Sexual Orientation and many others. Join me on this worthwhile and rewarding spiritual journey as we research, rethink, recover and then re-present the awesome and awe-inspiring God of the universe. $20 ($30 for two)
