$10.5 MILLION GRANT FOR UD BIOMATERIALS RESEARCH CENTER
A five-year grant of $10.5 million has been awarded to the University of Delaware from the National Institutes of Health's National Center for Research. The grant supports a multidisciplinary research program on molecular design of advanced biomaterials. Read more.
ACCUGENIX PROMOTES ROGER NALEPA TO CEO

NEW DELAWARE VALLEY INNOVATION NETWORK GRANTS
DVIN has announced a number of new Innovation Investment Awards in support of its mission to transform the life science industry in the 14-county tri-state region. Read more.
FIRST TRI-STATE TALENT GAP ANALYSIS REPORT COMPLETE
DVIN completed the tri-state region's first comprehensive Talent Gap Report, and findings will be used to help the region understand how the talent needs of the life sciences industry are changing and what the workforce needs to do to remain competitive. Read more.
GRANT OF $1.02 MILLION TO NEMOURS
The Nemours Center for Childhood Cancer Research received $1.02 million in grants from a variety of organizations in support of its continuing research to find the causes of pediatric cancers. Read more.
REBOUND OF BIO INDUSTRY IS EXPECTED
An investor perception study by Thomson Reuters and the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) was presented at the 11th Annual BIO CEO & Investor Conference in New York in February. The results show that the biotechnology industry is expected to rebound and outperform healthcare and the rest of the market during 2009. Read more.
GRANTS TO FRAUNHOFER CMB ADVANCE VACCINE DEVELOPMENT
In the last few months, two grants have been awarded to the Fraunhofer USA Center for Molecular Biotechnology. In January, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation awarded a grant of $8.7 million in support of continued development of a commercially viable avian influenza vaccine. The goal is to advance promising candidates into clinical trials. Read more.
In March, Fraunhofer CMB received a $12 million grant, which represents the second phase of a program that focuses on developing a flexible technology that can produce vaccines within weeks for threats like pandemic flu and biological weapons. Read more.

CYMA COMPLETES CONSTRUCTION OF ISOGEN SCIENCE CENTER
CYMA Builders, in collaboration with Isogen, renovated an existing research laboratory in Newark, DE, transforming it into a commissioned pharmaceutical manufacturing facility. Read more.

UD AND DUPONT TEAM UP TO MARKET DISEASE-RESISTANT CORN
Having devoted decades to research and development on a hybrid corn product that resists disease, DuPont and the University of Delaware have signed an agreement to bring the corn seed to market. Read more.
DSU DOCTORAL NEUROSCIENCE PROGRAM GETS $1MM GRANT
The National Science Foundation granted $1MM to support Delaware State University's new Neuroscience Doctoral Program and to build a Neuroscience Consortium of Scientists throughout Delaware. Read more. BIOTECHNOLOGY WEEKEND FOR DELAWARE TEACHERS
Middle and high school teachers gathered at UD's Delaware Biotechnology Institute and Hugh R. Sharp Campus in Lewes Feb. 20-22 for "biotechnology weekend."
