BIOTECH PROGRAM DEBUTS AT ST. GEORGE'S TECHNICAL HIGH SCHOOL
|
|
Open House April 30, 2009 Juniors seeking summer internships
The brand new St. Georges Technical High School, part of the New Castle County Vocational Technical School District, is proud to introduce its first Biotechnology Program. To celebrate the success of the program, St. George's will host its first open house on April 30th from 9:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. The biotechnology program has been developed by Florence A. Malinowski, M.S., who has over thirteen years of experience in the pharmaceutical / biotechnology industry.
The four year biotechnology program is designed to train high school students to master the basic lab techniques necessary for entry-level positions in the biotech industry. It also focuses on matriculation into post-secondary educational programs.
Students acquire a theoretical and practical education in various aspects of biology and chemistry that can be applied to diverse careers in the medical, environmental, industrial and agricultural industry. The practical hands-on laboratory experience combined with an intense training qualifies the young scientist to use general lab equipment (i.e. balance, micropipettes, pH meters, spectrometers, biological safety hoods, etc.). The scientists are also trained in the following lab procedures; order chemicals and supplies, solution preparation, sample receipt, cleaning glassware and laboratory, follow SOPs, safety procedures, MSDS and gel electrophoresis. Currently, our juniors are seeking summer internships and/or cooperative employment opportunities for the senior year beginning in June 2009.
Attendees are welcome to join colleagues and friends at lunch in the Hawk Café following the celebration, 11:15 a.m. to Noon. St. Georges Technical High School 555 Hyetts Corner Road Middletown, DE 19709
