LHN Goes PINK!

LHN Breast Cancer Awareness Friday was a huge success.  Thanks to all who supported the cause by purchasing t-shirts, donating to M.D. Anderson and supporting our LHN Lion Football Team!

Teacher Feature - Mr. Dana Gerard

Dana Gerard Teacher Feature 2010

Mr. Dana Gerard has been a teacher at LHN for 24 years and has been teaching for over 26 years total.  

 

He graduated from Concordia Teachers College in Seward Nebraska and received his Masters Degree from the University of Houston.

 

Mr. Gerard is currently the Dean of Students and he teaches Old Testament and Physical Education.

 

His wife is named Dana also and he has three children. Jackie who teaches at Concordia in Tomball. Caleb who is a freshmen at the United States Naval Academy, and Luke who is a fourth grade student at Our Savior Lutheran School.

 

Mr. Gerard's hobbies include anything that allows for him to be around his family.  He loves playing the guitar and singing and hanging out with friends.

 

Thank you Mr. Gerard for your long-time service at Lutheran High North!

Testing Day - October 13th, 2010

Wednesday, October 13th, is a very important day for LHN students.  The students will be taking the tests described below.  They should be well rested and eat a good breakfast.  They will be dismissed from school when their test is finished.

9th -EXPLORE                                                     

               The EXPLORE program by ACT is designed to

·  show your strengths and weaknesses in English, math, reading, and science

·  give you experience with the format of future tests

·  provide information about careers based on your interests

·  help you plan your high school education 

10th - PLAN                                                             

The PLAN program by ACT assesses academic progress, provides an early indicator of college readiness, helps students understand and explore career options, and assists them in enhancing a high school coursework plan that prepares them to achieve their post-high school goals.  This test is used for preparation for the ACT. 

11th - PSAT               

The PSAT is the College Board's preliminary test to prepare for the SAT.  It is also used by the National Merit Scholarship Foundation as the first qualifying test. 

12th - ASVAB                                                        

The ASVAB Career Exploration Program includes tests of aptitude and how to look at a combination of interests, aptitudes, and values when looking at over 400 occupations.  This test is also used for qualification for military programs.

Sr. Paul Lee - #1 in Region!

Paul Lee 2010Senior Paul Lee participated in the the Regional audition for Texas Music Educators Association at Houston's High School for the Performing and Visual Arts last Tuesday with a bass solo. 

Paul Lee ranked #1 in our region which includes all of Houston and Katy ISD!

Paul also recorded a CD that he will be judged from for the next round. This round will determine placement in the ALL STATE JAZZ BAND! 

Way to go Paul! 

College Corner

All Junior and Senior students will be attending a COLLEGE FAIR at Concordia High School in Tomball on Thursday, October 14th.  On that school day, students will be allowed to wear appropriate professional attire suitable for a job interview. Please dress modestly and in good taste. School uniform is required if you choose not to dress "up".

 

All freshmen and sophomore students will attend a COLLEGE FAIR on Thursday, November 4th at Lutheran South Academy.

*LHN is happy to announce all college acceptances. A special red sign is also placed on the student's locker. Please bring a copy of your acceptance letter and give to Mrs. Mary Heath for your file.

**Copies of the letters awarding scholarships, their amounts and conditions should also been given to Mrs. Heath for your file. These amounts are documented and the total amount of the class as a group is published in the senior profile book distributed at graduation.

"Let it Ride" Casino Night

LHN's Annual Fundraising Event will be held on November 13th, 2010

The theme for the evening will be

"Let it Ride-LHN Casino Night"! 

This event will be an evening of fun, Vegas style action.  Proceeds from this event will go towards purchasing a new bus for the school.

Volunteers are still needed to staff the concession stand for the  2nd half of Homecoming game.  We have asked that all band and cheer parents work at least one half (and a special thanks who have done more than that!)

 

 If you have not volunteered yet, please consider doing so.  We also need non-Senior parents to help for Senior night so that those parents can be on the field with their children.  Help is also needed during the Powderpuff Football game on Wednesday, October 20th at 7:00pm.

WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE - HOMECOMING is right around the corner!

 

Mark your calendars for October 22nd !!

 

Get your homecoming barbeque dinner tickets at the football game this Friday evening,

October 8, 2010. 

 

Buy your tickets early for $12.00, they will be $15.00 at the door.

The meal includes 2 meats, buttered potatoes, green beans, cole slaw, drinks, and desserts.

Parents should have received tickets for the barbeque in the mail by now and the ticket deadline is October 18th. 

 

So don't delay get them now!

Lion Cross Country Team

Cross Country Race Cure 

LHN Cross Country team has a meet this Saturday. The last regular meet is St. John's Maverick Ramble at Buffalo Bayou beginning at 9am. Next Saturday is State in Waco.

LHN Marching Band

The Lutheran High North Marching Band will compete in the Sam Houston State University Marching Band Festival on Saturday, October 30th.  The marching band would love to have the support of students and parents from Lutheran High North cheering them on in the stands.  The band will perform at 7:45 AM in Bowers Stadium on the campus of Sam Houston State University.  Bowers stadium will give you your best view this season of the Lutheran High North Marching Band.  Please come and cheer us on.
