Dear Notre Dame Families:
We had an awesome start to our Catholic Schools Week celebration!! It was wonderful to see many of you celebrating Mass with our parishioners! The Open House that followed Mass was a great success! There were many "new" families in attendance and parishioners seemed to enjoy getting a chance to see the school! Thank you to Annie Bongiorno, Kim Desotell, and Mary Dietsche for organizing the Open House. Thank you to the Spirituality Group for organizing the student participation in the weekend masses at St. Francis and St. Mary's!
Some other highlights of our week: on Monday our Middle School students prepared a meal for the St. John Homeless Shelter. Yesterday the school came alive with rainbow-color shirts for Noah's Rainbow Day. In the afternoon the Fifth Grade performed a Readers Theatre for Ledgeview Nursing Home residents. If you wish to join the McCormick residents in praying the rosary--their staff will lead the rosary-- please go to http://www.SignUpGenius.com/go/60B0A44ADA6283-pray. We continue service to our community with the Souper Bowl of Caring collection until Feb. 12th. Volunteers are needed to collect or deliver donated items; please sign up at: Souper Bowl of Caring.
To end this fabulous Catholic Schools Week celebration we welcome all parents and parishioners to the all school Mass this Friday, 8:30 am at St. Francis with a coffee social to follow.
Also, please join me in saying thank you to those who help make Notre Dame a success: our teachers, staff, site advisory council, parents, parishioners, priests and volunteers. Through their dedication and commitment, our students are learning in a culture of faith, academics and service that is preparing them for a full life in their families, communities and the Catholic Church.
The Notre Dame Island Adventure Carnival will be Friday, March 30th. We are in need of a chairperson to continue making this a successful event. Mary Giese, who has graciously chaired the event for the past seven years, is looking to train a volunteer to take over. Please click Notre Dame Island Adventure Carnival for more details.
Check our art pages for new photos of students and their work, including the ES rainforest and the December all school art exhibit. Students from Notre Dame school have paintings displayed in the ART Garage's third annual "Art Meet Heart" community mosaic. Some members of the 5th grade class painted 6" x 6" canvas "tiles" destined to be incorporated in the 8' x 10' heart on display at the ART Garage throughout February. The gallery and studios are located at 1400 Cedar Street in the Cannery Building.
If anyone is interested, there are a couple of Teachers looking for a Summer Nanny job. Please contact the school office as soon as possible, 337-1103. Thank you!
I anticipate registration for the 2012-2013 school year to begin the week of Catholic Schools Week (January 28th-February5th). Details to follow.
In Spirit,
Jeff
