September 28,  2011

Dear Notre Dame Families:

Happy Fall!!! We continue to enhance our academic programs at Notre Dame.  The elementary school is implementing, the daily five/three, a balanced literacy program.  Ask your children about the daily five/three to learn more. Teachers were trained in daily five/three at the August In-service.  We continue to make progress implementing the six trait writing assessment across the curriculum.  Our goal is to create a common "writing" language so our students are familiar with the assessment traits for writing.

October 4th is the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi (also Mrs. Agen's birthday).  Because of scheduling conflicts we will have a pet blessing on October 6th. This custom is conducted in remembrance of St. Francis of Assisi's love for all creatures.  Please bring your pets and cameras to the elementary school playground at 3:00.  (please keep your pets secured and ask permission before approaching another animial).  Father Patrick will conduct the blessing.

Notre Dame is a great school because of you!!!  That is why we need your help.  All families are required to complete 24 service hours (12 for single parent families) of which 12 hours  should be dedicated to fundraising.  Please click here for the family service hour log sheet. Click here for details of Family Service Hour Requirments.

Key club, our largest fundraiser, is just around the corner (November 4th).  If you would like to volunteer, donate, or buy tickets click here.  We are still in need of 1-2 volunteers to help with Key Application/Raffle Ticket pick-up after the 4:00pm mass on October 1st and the 11:00am mass on October 2nd at St. Francis. Please fill out and send in the attached Volunteer Form to help!

To learn more about key club click here: Key Club

Check out Innisbrook, our new fundraiser.  Get some early Christmas shopping out of the way.  I will camp on the roof if we make our goal ($20,000).  Click Innisbrook to find out more.

Pre-school and kindergarten families, we are in particular need of volunteers to help over the lunch hour.  We have a very large group of pre-schoolers and we would appreciate and need the additional help.  Please contact Jenny at the elementary school (337-1103).

Correction: The after-school program runs from 3:00 P.M to 6:00 P.M. at the elementary school(it was incorrectly reported last week from 4:00P.M. to 6:00P.M.)  Enrollment is up significantly.  Thank you to Julie Lynn (after-school coordinator).

Security cards:  We issue security cards only to families that have an approved reason to be in the building after the school office has been closed. The after-school program runs from 3:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M.  Families that have children in this program are issued cards that will give them access to the elementary school building during this time so they can pick up their children (3:00 P.M. -6:00 P.M.).  The cards are not activivated at any other time.  It is not safe for the children to have teachers leaving the classroom to open the door for parents. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this policy please call me at 217-4684.

Mrs. Glover is in process of collecting Notre Dame of De Pere fees for 2011-2012.  Click on Notre Dame of De Pere fees to get the form and pay your fees if you have not alread done so.

Please be sure to review all products available. Please help to make this a successful fundraiser for our school!

The deadline to order is Oct 3rd. The two classes with the most items sold will get a pizza and ice cream party AND if we meet our school goal of 18,000 in profit for the school, Mr. Kaftan has agreed to spend the night in a tent on the roof of the middle school.
