Mr. Kaftan's Korner

September 21,  2011

Dear Notre Dame Families:

It is with a heavy heart that I begin this week's newsletter.  As many of you know, Father Tony Dolski was a great supporter of Catholic education and particularly Notre Dame of De Pere. Father Dolski served as pastor for 20 years at St. Francis Xavier, retiring in 2006.  Father was the spiritual advisor and friend to many students, teachers/staff and families at Notre Dame of De Pere. Father Dolski had a special twinkle in his eye, and I know he will be looking out for us from heaven.

On a happier note, the golf outing was tremendous success both socially and financially.  The weather turned from cloudy early in the morning to sunny. We had a tremendous turnout! The golfers enjoyed the day. The students showed up to dunk Mr. Witthuhn, Mr Young and me in the dunk tank. Thank you to Julie and Len Stadtmueller for chairing this great event and to all the golf committee members.  The Stadtmuellers have agreed to chair the event for next year!!

MAPs testing is underway.  Please continue to stress the importance of these tests to your children.  The tests give the teachers critical information that is used for instruction.  MAPs tests are very similar to tests for the ACT etc. Test taking is an important skill to develop for your child's future!

Check out Innisbrook, our new fundraiser.  Get some early Christmas shopping out of the way.  I will camp on the roof if we make our goal ($20,000).  Click here Innisbrook fundraiser to find out more.

The after-school program runs from 4:00 P.M to 6:00 P.M. at the elementary school.  Enrollment is up significantly.  Thank you to Julie Lynn (after-school coordinator).

Pre-school and kindergarten families, we are in particular need of volunteers to help over the lunch hour.  We have a very large group of pre-schoolers and we would appreciate and need the additional help.  Please contact Jenny at the elementary school (337-1103) or Elisa at the middle school (337-1115).

In Spirit,

Jeff

2011 Leadership Convocation
Parishes: Called to Be Holy, Fully Engaged, Fully Alive

September Greetings, Everyone!

As we return from the many activities of summer to our many ministerial roles in our parishes, we come face to face with the joy and the challenge of implementing Bishop Ricken's Pastoral Letter Parishes: Called to be Holy, Fully Engaged, Fully Alive. There is no doubt that it is an exciting time in our diocese. To assist parishes, the Diocese of Green Bay Leadership Convocation 2011 is offering dynamic speakers that will address all six pastoral focus areas of the pastoral letter. This will be a wonderful opportunity to gather as a Church, celebrate Mass with Bishop Ricken and be inspired with new ideas and new hope.

Click the link below for the registration form. All are welcome to attend. We have sent an invitation to other dioceses in Wisconsin. Please register early if you can.

Blessings,
