October 26, 2011
Dear Notre Dame Families:
Thank you to all that completed our recent survey!! Over 140 families responded to the survey, which is fantastic!! Helping the Site Advisory Council and me to understand your priorities is extremely important as we move forward in the new Grace School system. I will be sharing more about the results of the survey in a future newsletter.
Notre Dame's third source fundraising goal for the Grace School system is $96,000. Keep in mind that even though these $'s are sent to Grace they ($'s) are used to pay operating expenses, such as the salaries of ND teachers. The $96,000 goal is for the 2011-2012 school year. Third source fundraising includes all our major fundraisers and profits from scrip. This is a very achievable goal. Once we meet our goal, which I know we will, additional $'s can be spent on projects as seen fit by the Site Advisory Council. Examples of projects might include a technology upgrade, purhase of textbooks, etc. There will be a fundraising barometer included in each newsletter to give you an idea of how we are doing. Click here to find out: Fundraising Update.
I hope that you are having/had productive conferences. We are quickly approaching the end of the first tri-mester (November 23rd).
I am including an article from this weeks WSJ that I think you might find helpful: Toughest Exam Question: What is the best way to study?
Key club, our largest fundraiser, is just around the corner (November 4th). Beginning October 29th, Key Club will premiere the first ever on-line auction. Check it out: Notre Dame/Our Lady of Lourdes Online Auction.

We will not be participating in this years holiday parade. The decison was made partially because of a recent fire on the Wiese family farm. The Wiese's have generously donated their truck and flatbed to Notre Dame to help build our float and carry the school band. Our thoughts and prayers ore with the Wiese's as they re-build.
Sunday from 8:00 until whenever the booyah is gone there will be a huge garage sale! There will be appliances, furniture, office furniture, and other miscellaneous items. Buy some booyah and shop at the same time.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend and enjoy the beautiful Fall colors.
In Spirit,
Jeff

All Saints' Day Celebration
November 1st, Tuesday All Notre Dame students are encouraged to dress up as their favorite Saint on Nov. 1st. This day will be celebrated with an all school Mass at 8:30 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier.
All are welcomed to join us for Mass and come as your favorite saint. All Saints' Day is a holy day of obligation that honors all martyrs and saints known and unknown. A saint is a very blessed and holy person who loved God very much. Saints are people who dedicated their lives to God and served others unselfishly. How lucky we are to have such good people to learn from and look up to. As we honor the saints, we pray for guidance and courage and faith to also follow God in all that we do each and every day. For we too, are called to be "Future Saints." Do you need to find information on the saints? Here are some suggested websites: http://www.fisheaters.com/saintsart.html
Some questions to think about when choosing your saint: Which saint's feast day lands on your birthday? Who is the most popular saint? Who is the least known saint? Who has the most unique name? Who is a modern day saint? Who is a saint that was an American citizen? Were you named after a saint? Who is a saint that lived a life of solitude? Who is a courageous saint? Who is a meek and humble saint? Which saint do you pray to ask for guidance and help? Which saint represents love or joy or peace or patience or kindness or goodness or faithfulness or gentleness or self-control? "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength and with all your mind and your neighbor as yourself." (Luke 10:27) |
N.D. Spirituality funds: Cupcakes for Life
National Prolife Cupcake Day was on October 9th. Our Middle School students took part in this celebration on October 10th. Cupcakes for Life is a day to remember the children who will never get to blow out candles, unwrap gifts and enjoy some cake. So on Monday, to remember these children and honor their birthdays, the middle school students each received a cupcake. In addition to celebrating those children's lives the students talked about respect for life issues, how to respect life and God's Word on respecting life: such as Genesis 1:27 "God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them." For more information on Cupcakes for Life and a short video clip go to: http://www.cupcakesforlife.com/
"God's love does not distinguish between the infant in the mother's womb or the child or the youth or the adult or the older person. In each one God sees His image and likeness. Human life is a manifestation of God and His glory." ~ Pope Benedict XVI ~

Adults Discussion: Location to be determined later, based on number of participants. Book: Catholicism- A Journey To The Heart of the Faith by Fr. Robert Barron. The hardcover book is available from Amazon for $15.98 and also available as an EBook. Read more about the book and the DVD series on Fr. Barron's website www.wordonfire.org.
"Father Barron delights in the ways our faith puts flesh on the word. He tells us stories. He brings out the art, architecture, pho- tos, and human faces. He shows on every page that those who call Ca- tholicism a 'system' are mistaken. It's a living Body. Fr. Barron wants the world to share his delight in that fact. Accessible to students yet stim- ulating for scholars, this book shows forth the unique civilization-forming potential of the Catholic faith and the Church's living tradition in everyage, including ours." -Scott Hahn |

"When classics professor Reed Stubblefield is disabled in a school shooting, he retreats to a rural Illinois cabin to recover and write a book on Aristotle. Oddly, in the chill of early March, the campgrounds and motels of tiny River Falls are filled with the ill and infirm -- all seeking the healing touch of the town's new parish priest, reputed to be a stigmatic, who bears on his hands and feet the wounds of Christ."
