21st Annual Notre Dame/Our Lady of Lourdes Key Club
Friday, November 4th at the Swan Club in De Pere
Here is a sneak peak at some of the Oral Auction items!
"PUPPY POWER"
That's right! Once again we will have an adorable little bundle of furry joy with a full puppy vet package in this year's auction! We will do our best to get the little pup to school before the auction to make sure all the parents and your children can cuddle, nozzle, and fall in love with our furry friend! The only question to ask is the one people have been pondering for ages -"How much is that doggy in the window?" - and that, my friends, is up to you!
"ST. MAARTEN CONDO: January 7th - 14th"
This is one of a handful of Condo Packages that we will have to offer in this year's Oral Auction. So let me break down the basics. One week in St. Maarten in January....Need I remind you what January is like in Wisconsin? Need I tell you what it could be like if you were on the beach in St. Maarten? I mean seriously folks, this just sells itself!
"FULL ORTHODONTIC PACKAGE"
You know it's coming! You have been talking about it with your dentist/orthodontist for months, maybe years. Why not spend the money and let the schools benefit? Full package from Dr. Lin at Orthodontic Specialists of Green Bay! Enough to make anyone smile!
"MIKE McCARTHY'S BOX AT LAMBEAU"
Why not enjoy the Packers vs. Vikings game on Monday night (Nov 14) from a whole new vantage point? Sixteen (16) lucky people can enjoy the game from the comfort of the McCarthy Box with food and drinks included. GO PACK GO!!!!
"BREWERS DIAMOND BOX SEATS"
Four prime Diamond box seats, second row behind the visitor's dugout. Includes 4 passes to the private NYCE Stadium Club to use before, during and after the game! "Almost to the door" parking pass included.
Too bad the Brewers aren't any good....oh, wait! It's our job to provide the tickets, parking, and access to the awesome Stadium Club for one mutually agreed upon game next season. It's your job to decide who to invite to these seats of a lifetime! These seats are so close that you really have to think about that heckle you usually yell from the nose bleed section! This time the players will actually hear and can reach you!!!!
Please fill out and send in the attached Key Club Support Form to help!

INNISBROOK FUNDRAISER
|
If you have not placed your Innisbrook order yet, it is NOT too late. The sale has been extended for the final time and will last through next Monday, October 10. There are several items available for purchase in the catalog, many of which would make great Christmas gifts. Our school earns 50% of all catalog sales, so the profit we can make through this fundraiser can add up quickly. If you are interested in looking at some of the wrapping paper, there is a table set up with samples inside the playground doors. At this point our sales is just under half of our school's goal of $20,000. Please help, by taking part in this new fundraiser.
Mr. Kaftan has agreed to spend the night in a tent on the roof of the middle school.

Pet Blessing
October 4th is the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi (also Mrs. Agen's birthday). Because of scheduling conflicts we will have a pet blessing on October 6th. This custom is conducted in remembrance of St. Francis of Assisi's love for all creatures. Please bring your pets and cameras to the elementary school playground at 3:00. (please keep your pets secured and ask permission before approaching another animial). Father Patrick will conduct the blessing.
Blessing of Animals
by Kevin E. Mackin, O.F.M.
As autumn arrives, people in various places may notice something odd.
A procession of animals, everything from dogs and cats to hamsters and even horses, is led to churches for a special ceremony called the Blessing of Pets.
This custom is conducted in remembrance of St. Francis of Assisi's love for all creatures.
Francis, whose feast day is October 4th, loved the larks flying about his hilltop town. He and his early brothers, staying in a small hovel, allowed themselves to be displaced by a donkey.
Francis wrote a Canticle of the Creatures, an ode to God's living things. "All praise to you, Oh Lord, for all these brother and sister creatures." And there was testimony in the cause for St. Clare of Assisi's canonization that referred to her little cat!
That there are today over 62 million cats in the U.S. attests to the continuing affection we have for our furry, feathered or finned friends. We've even had a cat called Socks in the White House. Other popular presidential pets range from Abraham Lincoln's Fido to Lyndon Johnson's beagles, named Him and Her.
For single householders, a pet can be a true companion. Many people arrive home from work to find a furry friend overjoyed at their return. Many a senior has a lap filled with a purring fellow creature.
The bond between person and pet is like no other relationship, because the communication between fellow creatures is at its most basic. Eye-to-eye, a man and his dog, or a woman and her cat, are two creatures of love.
No wonder people enjoy the opportunity to take their animal companions to church for a special blessing. Church is the place where the bond of creation is celebrated.
At Franciscan churches, a friar with brown robe and white cord often welcomes each animal with a special prayer. The Blessing of Pets usually goes like this:
"Blessed are you, Lord God, maker of all living creatures. You called forth fish in the sea, birds in the air and animals on the land. You inspired St. Francis to call all of them his brothers and sisters. We ask you to bless this pet. By the power of your love, enable it to live according to your plan. May we always praise you for all your beauty in creation. Blessed are you, Lord our God, in all your creatures! Amen."
