Greetings!
I know you.
In fact, that's why you're reading this right now.
Unfortunately, on vast swaths of the Internet, people who don't know each other write things that they would never, ever say or write "in public" - and the result is not pretty. The comment sections on many websites are wastelands of vicious, spectacularly uninformed comments and attacks that poison the public square and discourage thoughtful treatment of a topic or idea. In our business, we've seen misinformation about clients haphazardly flung around the Internet, under the cloak of anonymity. This is a problem, because rectifying the mistaken information once it appears can be a long, slow expensive process.
That's why I was glad to read that major newspapers were reconsidering their criteria for contributor comments, and thinking about new, more constructive ways to channel the conversation.
While anonymity can allow for a candid comment that might not otherwise be expressed, it can just as often be taken as an invitation to sling toxic insults that get the conversation nowhere. It's good to see that thoughtful people are thinking about ways to strike a better balance.

 | Introducing QuonsetJobs.com
| The Quonset Business Park continues to be a Rhode Island success story, and one of the shining lights amidst our recent economic troubles.
On Monday we launched a radio and web campaign for our client the Quonset Development Corporation (QDC), which runs the park and the Port of Davisville. The radio ads (which you can listen to here) ask people to visit QuonsetJobs.com, where they can learn about job openings at some of Quonset's 168 companies, and even beyond. Today, 8,800 people work at the Business Park, and Davisville is one of the Top 10 auto importers in North America.
The opportunities at Quonset include welders, engineers, medical researchers, longshoremen and office professionals. Boosted by $142 million in private investment, the companies at Quonset added over 2,700 new jobs in the last five years alone - a number that is expected to grow following the $22.3 million federal stimulus grant recently awarded to Quonset.
Click here to learn more about everything that's happening at Quonset.
If you or someone you know would like to take a tour of Quonset, let me know. Believe me - you'll be impressed.

How to prepare for a crisis today? How to take control of your own message and reach the people who need to hear it? How to make the most of a media interview? If you or your clients are looking for the latest and best thinking on how to answer these questions, we can offer the following three presentations:
- Crisis Communications -- Five ways to prepare today for tomorrow's unexpected crisis.
- Be Your Own Media Mogul - Use social media and the web to create your own content and reach your key audiences.
- Basic Media Training - The complete "How To" for making the most of that big interview.
We get great feedback on these presentations from folks at local chambers, law firms, CPA firms or community groups. Let me know if your firm (and your clients) or group is looking for expert advice on handling crises, managing your message or dealing with media. We'd be glad to come by and share our time-tested approach any time. |
