Greetings!
There can't be too many places sadder than the Island of Misfit Toys - except perhaps the nearby Iceberg of Deleted E-Mail Newsletters. In our business, this is a very grim place, indeed.
After all, if you're going to go through the trouble of putting the thing together, you want people to open it. And the stakes are high, because e-mail newsletters are the best tool, by far, for letting your audiences know what you're up to, and where they can find out more about you on-line.
Check out our blog here to find out why people hit "delete", and how you can turn that around.
You say you don't know who, and how many people, are opening your e-mail newsletter? Then we need to talk.
Best,

PS - Hope you and your family have a Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and all around great Holiday Season!

How it Should Work |
Jazz legend Dave Brubeck was fantastic in concert earlier this month at Immaculate Conception Church, where he played to a packed house, thanks to social media and PR. Here's how we used both:
Tweeted about the concert on the New Harbor account and on the accounts of our individual team members;
- Signed up to follow people who are interested in jazz on Twitter with the New Harbor account. They then followed us and got information about the concert through our tweets. Those people then passed that info along to their followers;
- Used the same strategy on Facebook;
- Made certain that every post included a link to the on-line ticket website;
- Through our e-mail newsletter we let our friends and clients know about the concert, and;
- Distributed traditional press releases and media advisories to get preview coverage of the concert ahead of time.
After the concert, Brubeck left early the next morning for dinner with Pres. Obama and to attend this year's Kennedy Center Honors, where he was an honoree. Busy weekend for this jazz legend - and we were honored to be a part of it. |

Building the New Harbor Team
|
Welcome aboard to Rhoades Alderson, late of Mayor David Cicilline's Communications Office, where he served as the director. It's actually more accurate to say that Rhoades re-joined us this month, since we had the pleasure of working with him a few years ago.
Rhoades is not only a brilliant writer, he is also a clear-thinking, insightful strategy guy who can cut to the core of an issue in a blink. His strong skills, and even, thoughtful temperament are a perfect match for the New Harbor team.
It's great to have him back.

A Dramatic Rescue at Waterplace Park; Getting Off to a Great Start
- A local Boy Scout played a heroic role in a dramatic rescue at Waterplace Park in downtown Providence last week. Check out the coverage, both on Channel 10, and in the Providence Journal.
- The successful concert by Dave Brubeck was just part of the opening festivities for Immaculate Conception Catholic Regional School, the first Catholic school to open in Rhode Island in 40 years. Check out the coverage on the school's exciting Opening Day.
- Coordinating H1N1 vaccinations for over 100,000 Rhode Island school children was no easy task. Medical professionals, volunteers, locations and vaccine availability all had to be in-sync to handle the intense demand. OSHEAN (pronounced ocean) - the non-profit internet provider for hospitals, colleges, universities and state agencies - put a special H1N1 server in place to handle the 900% increase in computer traffic. Check out just some of the coverage here.
