Number One Answer:
Boring Subject Lines.
As the late Richard Dawson might say- "Why are people deleting your e-mail newsletter?! Number One Answer...a boring subject line!!"

If you're going through the trouble to create an e-newsletter, then you want people to open it. This is crucial because an e-news is among the best tools for letting your core audiences know what you're up to, and where they can find out more about you on-line.

But in too many cases, the e-news falls like a tree in the forest. Why? As we explain in our blog, the answer is often as simple as a lousy subject line . We can help you fix that.

And if your organization isn't communicating via e-news in a consistent way, we need to talk.

Best,

New Harbor Group on TV and Radio

My old friend Barbara Cottam was selected by the Governor last week to chair the State Board of Education. Barbara and I worked together in the daily maelstrom that was Gov. Bruce Sundlun's communications office. Recently, as a new Administration begins its work, we were invited to appear on Channel 12's 'Newsmakers' program to talk about the daily reality of life in a Governor's Office, and how Gov. Sundlun's management and leadership skills made him such a historic success. You can watch the interview here at the 14:47 mark.

Brian Williams, Deflategate, Rolling Stone and UVA - there's been a lot going on lately in the Crisis Department, with some being handled better than others. A couple weeks ago, I had a chance to speak with local radio "maven" Steve Klamkin on his show about some of the issues facing Sony as that company works to repair the damage from their recent run-in with North Korean hackers. Click here to listen in.

The Quonset Business Park recently passed the 10,000 job milestone. One of the contributing factors in filling those jobs has been QuonsetsJobs.com, now in its fifth year, a website where the 195 tenant companies at the Park can post their job openings. Last week the Governor announced that new radio ads for QuonsetJobs.com, produced by New Harbor Group, were airing on local stations. You can hear those ads here.

A Really Bad Idea

The scenic Blackstone River...
As officials prepare to create a National Park along the Blackstone River, there's a huge 800-pound fly in the ointment. The issue? An excessive, poorly-considered proposal by the EPA to clean up a riverside Superfund site that would increase the danger of flooding and create an ugly, treeless 70-acre mound with pipes sticking out of it. People on both sides of the river are up in arms - the Lincoln Town Council passed a resolution questioning the proposal, and the Town of Cumberland has weighed in as well. We're working with the parties involved to find a better solution.

$100 Million!

Freedom National Bank recently passed a milestone of its own, as the small local institution reached $100 million in assets. Freedom CEO Anthony Botelho answered "Five Questions" from the Providence Business News about the banks recent success, and how a relentless focus on customer service that is just plain "nice" is a key ingredient in the "secret sauce" of his plans for future growth and expansion.

10,000 Jobs!

As we mentioned, the Quonset Business Park is now home to more than 10,000 jobs and state leaders attended an event there recently to celebrate a Rhode Island success story. As part of the wide-ranging media coverage of the milestone, QDC Managing Director Steven King appeared on the Dan Yorke State of Mind (go to 10:35) to talk about what has made Quonset a success.
