A letter from the CEO of the Methodist Home
Dear family and friends of the Methodist Home,
In this newsletter you'll find great photos from this month's activities: our activities department was hard at work in September putting together a week's worth of fun for National Assisted Living Week (on top of all of our usual activities throughout the month!). Thanks again to our activities staff members for all your hard work -- we had a blast with yarn bombing, ice cream socials, and more!
September was also bittersweet for us: we said farewell to our Executive Director of Forest Side, Dr. Alexis McKenzie. We sent her off with a lovely party and we look forward to her new role as a consultant with us. We'll miss you Alexis!
Coming up this month we will be celebrating Halloween early with our AHCA volunteers, plus enjoying new lectures, musical performances, and more.
To view a complete listing of this month's activities, click here or visit the Special Events tab on our website.
As always, we welcome you to come visit us at the Methodist Home -- our door is always open to friends! If you or someone you know is interested in scheduling a tour of our community, please contact Diane Heyde at 202.966.7623.
Thank you for your continued support of the Methodist Home, we look forward to seeing you around!
All my best,
Sandy Douglass, CEO/Administrator The Methodist Home of DC & Forest Side |

Homemade Happiness
The Methodist Home of DC stepped it up a notch this month with NCAL's annual National Assisted Living Week. This year's theme, "Homemade Happiness" was celebrated throughout the week of September 9th with our residents, family members, friends, and staff. To kick off the week, we got into some yarn bombing in our garden. Members of our weekly knitting group planned and constructed yarn creations that were installed with the help of other residents, staff, family members and friends. The weather was beautiful, and our finished product was too! Our Homemade activities continued with a day spent with our awesome AHCA volunteers making vintage toys, reminiscing about childhood favorites and answering some trivia about classic toys. Thank you, as always to our dedicated volunteers. We rounded out the week with making our own paper quilts, and then treated ourselves to a homemade ice cream competition. The best part? We have photos of all the fun! To view photos from National Assisted Living Week, click here.

Improvements to the Methodist Home
GOOD NEWS! As you know, last year we embarked on a plan for major upgrades in our community's common areas: the new entranceway, beautiful main lobby and library are all products of these efforts.
As the Methodist Home continues to invest in its community and work hard to enhance the quality of the lives of our residents, we are excited to announce our next phase of home improvements: a complete makeover for the main dining room!
The main dining room will receive all new furniture, flooring, light fixtures, paint, and other major improvements that will enhance our dining experience.
We thank you for your patience as we work towards yet another positive improvement at the Methodist Home!

Monthly Shabbat Services
Beginning last Friday, the Methodist Home and Forest Side now offers a monthly Shabbat Service held the first Friday of every month.
As you know, we have been working in connection with the Jewish Social Services Agency (JSSA) in Rockville to enhance our faith opportunities for our Jewish residents. On September 18th, we held our first Sukkot celebration held at the Methodist Home and led by Rabbi Mark Raphael from JSSA. Thank you to everyone who was able to join us for this celebration! We hope you will also be able to join us for this new tradition:
