The Methodist Home of DC
A letter from the CEO of the Methodist Home

Dear Methodist Home and Forest Side friends and staff,

It is with mixed feelings that I announce the resignation of Dr. Alexis McKenzie as Executive Director of Forest Side.  Alexis has been a part of our Methodist Home family for three years, starting at Forest Side in its early construction phase.  During her tenure, Alexis' dedication to the program's success and her commitment to the staff, residents and families have never wavered.  At this time in her life, however, Alexis has decided to spread her wings. She plans to start her own practice in the area of senior program development, one of her long-time passions within the eldercare field.

The good news is that Alexis has agreed to maintain her involvement in the Methodist Home and Forest Side as a consultant. So, while she will no longer have the responsibilities as Executive Director, Alexis will remain part of our family and will continue to contribute as we move forward.

It is important for you to know that the operations and programming at Forest Side will continue without disruption as we transition into this next phase of the community's growth.  I will increase my involvement at Forest Side as we move to select Alexis' replacement.  I have every confidence that the Forest Side staff will continue to ensure that all residents receive the love and compassionate care they deserve, with whatever support may be needed from the Methodist Home.

Please feel free to contact Mary Savoy, RN, LNHA, Director of Health Services or me if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Sandy Douglass, CEO/Administrator

Northwest Neighbors Village Relocates to the Methodist Home

Northwest Neighbors Village (NNV), a network of support services empowering residents of northwest DC to remain independent at home as long as it is safe to do so, has outgrown its original quarters and secured new office space in The Methodist Home of DC. "We are very pleased to relocate our operations to The Methodist Home", reports Joan Norcutt, Co-President of NNV, "the new office space, a great location and the various wonderful amenities of their beautiful community is ideal for our staff and volunteers to continue our work of supporting and engaging seniors living at home in northwest DC."

Clowning Around at the Methodist Home

On August 13, 2013, the Methodist Home celebrated International Clown Week with a special Circus Day. As part of the AHCA/NCAL Day of Service, residents were entertained by a professional clown, enjoyed circus treats of cotton candy and popcorn, watched and demonstrated card and magic tricks, learned circus facts and answered circus trivia.

Our residents also enjoyed sharing their lunch under our homemade "big top" with our volunteers from the AHCA/NCAL day of service. Thank you, as always, to our volunteers for brightening our day!
