2012 Illinois Piglet Book

The Illinois Policy Institute - Citizens Against Government Waste, publishes the Illinois Piglet Book.  This report highlights wasteful spending in Illinois at the state level.  It enables Illinoisans to see the waste that's happening in their communities.  I thought I would share the 2012 report with you.  I have pulled out an excerpt that talks about local government waste and provides a few examples.  I am also attaching the full report.

We Filed An Appeal . . . Now What?

Patience is the name of the game.  The Township Assessor's office and the County Board of Review members will be looking over appeals during December 2012, January & February 2013.  Letters of Final Determination will be sent out in March.  If we win the appeal, your new assessed value will be reflected in the property tax bill you receive in May.  We appreciate your patience.

McHenry County College:   It seems that next year MCC taxpayers can expect to pay more. They are seeking the maximum under the tax cap (3%).  The college Board of Trustees reportadly will seek 9.9% more, although they are not expecting to receive that full increase.

Huntley School District:  For the second year, District 158 is asking for the same amount of tax dollars as a result of a $39.4 million state construction grant.  Most homeowners whose housing values have declined will find relief.  For those whose property values did not decline, however, their tax bills will rise.

Village of Cary:  The Village of Cary is looking for a slight increase this year in its property tax levy.  This past week the Board approved a property tax levy of $2.45 million (2.99% higher than last year).
