Bud's Meats
Bud's Meats, located on Petaluma Hill rd near Penngrove does one of the best jobs smoking and packaging your fish.  We take all of our Sturgeon and Salmon there to have it done up proper. We dropped off that Sturgeon featured in this news letter last week and had it brined and marinated with the Garlic Pepper flavor marinade.  Unbelievable flavor guys and if you haven't been in there yet take your next fish to Bud's.  Smoked Sturgeon or Salmon are inexpensive x-mas presents! We have their business cards here at the shop.  Here are some photos from our fish and a link to their Facebook page for more info and their contact info:

Photos & Videos
Here is Jason Colarusso bringing in his 23" Bass near the mouth of the Petaluma River this Monday. Jimmy Sinkay (Captain Joel's oldest) managed to send off this video and pictures before dropping his I-Phone 4 into the river.  he was quoted as saying "I was kinda thinking about getting a new phone anyways".  His facebook status read a little something like this: A new Sturgeon Rod/Reel combo $140.  Boat Launch $5.  1LB of Grass Shrimp $20. Dropping your I-phone into the Petaluma River while showing off for buddies, Priceless...

Fishing Update
  • Live Local Dungeness Crab!!!  Come on down and get your live crab from Leonard's.  They are about 2Lbs each and lively so get yours today.
  • Petaluma River:  The bite has been slower this week on these weaker tides.  But they have caught fish throughout the river.  Primarily bass and Shark still with few Sturgeon caught.  They have been jumping in the river and like a few weeks ago this rain is only going to help the bite.  The mouth of the river has been action filled on these big out going tides.  Once that water starts ripping though here there is
  • Napa River:  Striped Bass has bee good in lower Napa.  Captain Joel says the Napa River is his best bet  for Sturgeon Fishing.  He recommends fishing near hwy 29 at night with live Grass Shrimp.  The Napa river usually produces nice Sturgeon before the Bay and he knows they have been there for a while being that he had picked a few up in his net crushing all his shrimp recently.
  • San Pablo Bay:  Sturgeon and Bass are being caught and it seems that some of the junk fish have slowed their bite these last couple of weeks.  We fished last Monday near the Bel Marin Keys Channel and brought in two 23" Bass and had tons of bites and missed some big ones while fishing a big out going tide.  See the pic below of that over-sized Sturgeon caught out near the Pumphouse as well.
  • Best Tides:  For the rest of the week it will be the late outgoing tide into the evening.  Next week for thanks giving Joel says both the incoming and outgoing tides will be great for fishing.
  • Bait:  We have plenty of live Grass and Ghost Shirmp.  In addition we have Pile Worms and Mudsuckers.  We have a limited supply of Bullheads and you can always call ahead to see what we have at that time.
  • Dave Hurley provides the best detailed fishing report for the greater Bay Area.  Check it out and sign up: The Hurley Chronicles
  • Low Tides: We recommend that you do not try to boat into our slough right now unless it is high tide.  The mud is pretty thick and if you can just stop by before you launch.  We hate to see you guys mess up your engine kicking up mud on the bottom of a tide.  Until they dredge you gotta drive here before you launch.
  • There were proposed changes to sturgeon regulations that were approved yesterday by F&G: This proposal recommends amending sections 5.80 and 27.90 to also prohibit use of snares, hooks other than one single point, single shank, barbless, removal of fish greater than 68 inches long fork length (FL) from the water; and to require use of fork length measurements.  More to come as we get it.  We arn't sure when these changes will take affect but we will keep you posted.  To read the full transcript from the meeting Click Here.

Savon and Joeseph headed out on the San Pablo Bay last Saturday.  Here is their 20" Striper and their 71" Sturgeon that they released.  Live Shrimp from Leonard's combined with sharp ass hooks will land your fish like these.  They caught the these fish at 12:30 (Bass) and 3pm (Sturgeon).  To all our fishermen be aware that there will be some regulation changes starting soon that will make it illegal to snare Sturgeon.  We will keep you posted when we hear more but for now it's still legal.  Thanks for the pic's guys!

Here is Mike Cathcart and his 27" Bass caught up river near Papa's where he has been marking a few nice fish.

Tina Shaw went fishing near Martinez last Sunday and she caught her share of Striped Bass.
